I’m thinking about giving a class on the basics of paperless geocaching. Within the last year I have went through the sharp learning curve on pocket queries, PDA’s, Spinner & Plucker, and I’d like to share what I have learned. The class would be pretty basic, as I only have knowledge of this process using Windows XP and the Palm operating system and software. First, I’m curious to know if anybody would be interested in attending this class. Second I’m curious to know if anybody would like to help who has had more experience with other PDA’s and operating systems. I would probably hold it some evening this winter, either at my house, or if there is a greater demand, a library or some other such place.

01/06/2004 at 1:26 pm #1746206I’d be interested in attending if I have the date open. I’m struggling with a new Palm now but am having problems with the unit itself.
01/06/2004 at 2:32 pm #1746207Sounds like a good idea. I’ve been paperless for a couple years now, but would love to see how other people are doing things. I just started using the Plucker/Spinner and Cachemate last month. I’m pretty new to those and could always use a few pointers. A class would be a good way for cachers to see what they like before purchasing a Palm/PocketPC.

Maybe throw in some advanced GPSr and PC use for Geocaching demonstrations also? I would enjoy seeing how others go about projecting waypoints, uploading track logs, and demonstrations of how others are using the various map software such as streets & trips, metroguide, roads & recreation, USAPhotomaps, etc.
I know of a nice eatery in Kenosha that we could get our own room for everyone to bring their toys to and we could have pizzas and soda (or steak & lobster ) at the ready. I participated in a couple of non-geocaching seminars there previously and it worked out very nicely. I’d be happy to help if this is of interest to Brian & the Group.

01/06/2004 at 11:44 pm #1746209Show me what you got, I am always running out of ink and paper.
01/07/2004 at 2:06 am #1746210I would most certainly be interested. Let me know what you decide. I can probably catch a ride with the beast. (If he doesn’t mind)

01/09/2004 at 3:36 am #1746212Sounds like a good idea. If needed,I might be able to get the company to let me use an LCD projector so everyone wouldn’t have to crunch around a monitor or laptop.
01/14/2004 at 5:37 am #1746213I sure would like to learn more. If Steve cannot obtain a computer projector, I can. I also have some ideas about projecting the display of a PDA onto the large screen (we have those too). Just let me know.
01/14/2004 at 2:37 pm #1746214I would be very interested!

01/14/2004 at 2:52 pm #1746215Thanks for all of the input so far. Right now I’m developing a course outline and a presentation to go along with it. It’s looking right now like we will cover: Setting up pocket queries, setting up, configuring & using GPX Spinner, configuring and using Plucker, and using Easy GPS. I also plan on lighly touching on Palm PDA software, and using Plucker on the PDA. I still have not looked into a venue yet, but I will soon.
