A QUESTION … Do you think these things have enough “collect-ability” that I worked with my local state park for them to have one made representing that specific park, and they then sold them in the gift shop as an individual item … would people (such as geocachers) potentially buy one? I suspect the main point of these items is to get a set made and give them away … so I’m not sure how this idea would fly.
I’m trying to work with the local state park on promoting geocaching and attracting people to going into the office / gift shop. The idea of these occurred to me, but maybe it’s a dumb idea.
I think it might be a bit early to get a non-geocaching group (such as a park manager) involved in this. This does have the look of something people would like, but I would suggest that you want to get a bit more market penetration before you have someone commit the cost to commission having tags made. You don’t saddle them with a lot of inventory that no one wants.
That said, assuming this takes off, it could be a great money maker for the parks departments.
07/19/2007 at 8:10 pm #1877100How much is a starter kit? Maybe I need some GPS coordinates, but I don’t see a price anywhere.

$99 plus shipping. You get the setup fee, 50 tags, 4 clips, and a pouch. Additional tags are between $0.85 and $0.99 each, depending on how many you buy.
08/15/2007 at 2:10 pm #1877102Design has been submitted and approved. I’m way to impatient. I want them to ship NOW! ๐ Seriously though I can’t wait till they come in. Thanks for the heads up on these.
08/17/2007 at 11:15 pm #1877103๐ฏ I think I’ll go bonkers if they don’t get here soon! It is almost as bad as waiting for a baby to arrive. Sheesh! I have already had so many requests for our tag, I am glad we ordered 150, almost have 50 gone already! ๐
09/21/2007 at 7:18 pm #1877104We recieved our Pathtags this week and are very happy with the quality. We just used our logo and kept it in a simple 2 color format. Made the l geologo into a cache box so we did not have to worry about copyright. Watch for them soon in a cache near you.

09/27/2007 at 11:37 pm #1877108Got my PathTags today! Way cool! 8) Took about 5 weeks all together to design and receive them.
I’ll be dropping some of them in the area caches. I know I owe AuntieNae and The Tapps one.

09/28/2007 at 11:50 am #1877109Anyone interested in trades, send me a trade request. Our tag is on page 44 in the tag gallery. ๐
09/28/2007 at 2:48 pm #1877110The Tapps & I also have Pathtags. We had the trade option turned off due to the move BUT I do know where the Pathtags boxes are!
I might turn the trade option back on this weekend, if I do not get to it, just email me and I can send them out to you.

I got 15 trade requests in the first 12 hours of me turning that feature on. ๐ฏ Guess I’ll have to order more tags!
09/29/2007 at 1:14 am #1877112Of course you did Aunti Nae, your tag is adorable! By the way, there is now a “Pathtag Club” where you can order one design a month and pay each month for that design. So far, we have designs for the first one and October which are really nice! I have ordered a couple extra of each so I can trade them later on. ๐ This is way more economical than geocoins.

We came across our first pathtag recently. Assuming it was a regular trackable, we picked it up to move it.
Then reading more about it on the pathtag site, and picking up on this thread…my question is what is the protocol for pathtags?
If you pick one up you are supposed to log it.
Then you can either decide to release it back to the wild…or not.
But if “not,” what is the protocol, since we do not have a pathtag of our own to trade?
Know what I mean?
