… and consider the plight of those in Haiti, and elsewhere, that could use help.

If you geocache, it means you have disposable income available. You have the time and luxury to cache.

    Please consider a donation.

The Red Cross is an excellent choice.

      Marc,

Thank you. It’s easy to get wrapped up in “important issues” when we feel passionate about what we do. Time and again, on *any* message board of which I’ve been a part, I’ve seen folks get so wound up about something that is really not a big deal. Things like the tragedy that is Haiti ARE a big deal. I heard a story this morning on my way to work. A woman and her son were hoping a bus driver would take them for free to the outlying areas. It costs $20 a person for that ride. Her belongings, including her money, were lost in the rubble.

That is such a small amount of money. A tank of gas to go on one of your tours, perhaps. Thank you again for reminding us to keep everything in perspective.

      I couldn’t agree more.

Donate to the Red Cross directly

You can also text “Haiti” to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross. This will show up on your cell phone bill. You can text up to three times to donate a total of $30

Even if a single dollar is all you can donate, DO IT! Every bit helps!!!

If you use Amazon.com, they have set up a donation effort through MercyCorps to help those in need in Haiti. It’s very easy to use.

      Amazon

Every dollar changes someone’s life for the better. That works both ways. For those who receive as well as those who give. So, the next time you’re at the dollar store looking for swag or buying a geocoin or buying fresh batteries for your GPS, consider making a matching donation to the Red Cross.

The FreeRice campaign has been going on since 2007, so even if you can’t donate money, you can still feed the hungry (and become smarter in the process!).

The company I work for is donating $50,000 plus matching all employee donations…

Here’s another great organization that’s extremely responsible with the money they’re given and they were also right there on the front line as quickly as they could get in Haiti.

      Samaritan’s Purse

Not that I am not a caring person, but I myself will not be sending a dime to Haiti. I think its funny that people will send money to organizations with the hope that it is doing good somewhere. But would not send the same amount to a local food pantry, or help a neighbor in need.

Its time for the US to start helping itself, Let some of the other UN countries do there part.

When Katrina happened you did not see other countries coming to help us.

I only donate to local organizations ONLY nothing national, Our local church has a pantry, there is a thrift shop in Wabeno, and instead of the national humane society, I give to our local shelter in Oconto.

I dropped off a couple of boxes of food at the local food pantry on Sat…man what an eye-opening experience. Everyone should visit their local food pantry. There are poor and needy folks everywhere; I guess it doesn’t matter where you help just that you do.

Giving is giving. Thanks for doing what you do.

On another note, be cautious where you send your money. Some foundations take a little more for their overhead than others. The red Cross makes sure $.91 of every dollar goes to helping directly. only $.09 per dollar is used for overhead.
