For those of you using a PDA for geocaching, I’ve found these two programs very useful.

    Hint Decoder

    Geo Clipping

If anyone else has some nifty programs you find useful for caching, post them here.

Geoclipping also works on the benchmark hunts. “Documents To Go” is a good program too. I can copy and paste an entire web page to MS Word and keep it. Also used the spreadsheet function to put the triangulation calculating spreadsheet in for future use.

I found this handy little palm program on the Maryland Geocaching Society’s webpage.

It’s helps you keep a log of the caches you’ve found. I’m trying to get to the point where I don’t need any printouts when I cache. The GC.com Ebook customized searches are a step in that direction. This Geocaching Logbook would make a good companion to the Ebook files.

The program is called: Geocache Log Book

There is no cost to download the program.

I’ve recently started using GPX Spinner to process the GPX searched I get from gc.com into HTML pages.

I then use Plucker to get them onto my Clie for viewing. You can search by distance, name, etc, and you also get to see things like the last few logs, as well as view hints.

Both excellent programs and both are free!

There is a free database program fro all Palm based PDAs called Pilot-DB.

Last year I wrote a geocaching database for it I use for logging my finds. My database records:

    • Cache name
    • Date found (uses popup calendar centered on the current date)
    • Who found it (uses a configuarable drop down list of team members)
    • Up to three trades (what you left/took)
    • And a free from comment field

In the main database the cache name, date, and finder are all displayed in a table, and you can sort up or down on any column. The table can be scrolled sideways to view the other fileds. Clicking on any row brings up the data for that find. You can search on any/all fileds, and build up to 4 saved filters. The filters will filter the displayed table to show only finds matching the filter.

Anyone who might want a copy of my database, just let me know… I should be able to figure out how to share it I have no idea how it compares to the Maryland program, mine may be far inferior, and you do have to install the free Pilot-DB first to use mine.
