I’m not paperless yet. (Maybe I need to change my username to “treekiller”???) I would like to go paperless. I’m wondering what kind of PDAs other cachers are using. Do you like your PDA? Is there any type of PDA out there I should avoid? I’m looking for a really inexpensive version, so I’m not looking for the *most updated* kind, so does anyone have any suggestions?

I would recommend anything by Palm or Handspring. Pick one up on E-Bay for $30-$40 and use it for awhile. (make sure it includes a cradle to connect it to your PC) Then you will have a better idea of how you will use one and what features you would like if you decide to spring for a $$$ one.

We were very cost conceince when we started out going paperless. Our first pda was the Palm Zire m150 and it did the job for a while. It’s biggest downfall was the size of the memory. With only 2mb, it allowed us to load cachemate and 500 caches. That may seem like alot, but we always tended to be right at the extents of that 500 cache circle. We then got lucky and saw Snoshu’s post for a Sony Clie s-360 for sale and we picked it up for a very reasonable price. We now has 16mg and allows for all 2000 caches that are sent to us from gc.com and has room to spare.

I know there are alot of spinner/plucker fans out there but we niether had the time or the knowhow to figure them out. Cachemate would be my recomendation to all who are starting out paperless.

I’d like to do this soon. http://wi-geocaching.com/forums/Forum8/HTML/000381.html

If you are interested, when would be a good night? or would you rather give up a potentially good caching morning on a weekend? How about the 24th? (Saturday Morning?) Let me know y’all! WZBT03, (or another could you come and handle the “Windows” part of this? I can do the “Palm” part.

Count me in as a very willing student! Mondays and Tuesdays are usually good nights for me. And I’d take a weekend morning as well. (Much of my caching is during the day while the little guy is at school since I’m much more addicted than he is….)

Now I’m gonna go grab the GPSr owner’s manual and find out if I can get a cable to hook it up to the ‘puter so I don’t have to manually enter all my waypoints. Well, at least later I’ll read up on that. I think I might go caching this morning instead.

If you can’t wait for a clinic on paperless geocaching, or if you just want to get a head start, I recommend this page: http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/paperless.html This is where I learned how to do it, including picking up a PalmIIIxe on eBay. Follow these instructions and you’ll soon be in paperless geocaching hog heaven.

Search on Ebay for one. You can usually find on cheaper than the brand name one made by garmin or magellan. I have 2 “generic” ones and they work great

Would be happy to help with the windows based PDA but the 24th is the date of Cashing Outs Breakfast and I am going to try and make that if I can.
    Goodluck anyway!

Great link!!! That just might do it for me. I’m not the most techno savvy person, so a little visual instruction is just what I need!

I did some looking around online and bought a Palm lllxe on eBay yesterday for $36. I figured the slightly bigger 8mb memory would be best so I don’t feel like I have to replace it right away. I can’t wait to give it a try!
