    Hi –

We know of many caches in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, which runs across much of northern WI. We have not seen any of the verbage on the cache pages similar to that required for any caches placed on the DNR state lands.

We are considering putting out a new cache up north near our cottage, but want to make sure we have our ducks in a row first, not find out afterwards. We have not found any regulations posted here, on the gc.com site, or on the Forest homepage which seem to apply.

Are there any notification or permission issues in regard to placing caches in the National forest (other than the normal cache placing guidelines)? There were not when we put out our last one up north, but that’s been a couple of years now.

    Thanks for the info.

I’m not aware of any restrictions on the Chequamagon or Nicholet National Forests. These are National Forests, and are handled different then National Park lands.

To be safe, I’d avoid the National Forest Campgrounds.

When we checked in with them at the headquarters in Eagle River two years ago they were fine with us putting caches in the Nicolet. They were aware that one was already there too.
