Okay, I may step on toes here, for which I will apologize in advance. What does one do with personalized items that one finds in caches; such as cards or coins with the insignia and/or personal info of the depositer on them? Do I keep them, leave them behind in future finds, leave them in the cache I find them in, or what? I have considered getting some personalized coins, even designed one, but I’m not sure what to do with them once we get them. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks mucho!
07/16/2006 at 1:25 pm #1763566I feel that if you find something in a cache other than a logbook, logable geocoin or travel bug, it is a fair trading item. If you collect signature items, you may keep it, if not leave it for the next cacher. Remember that if you take something out of a cache, you must replace it with something of equal or greater value.
Used golf balls are not a suitable trade item.
07/16/2006 at 10:42 pm #1763567I enjoy and collect cachers wooden Personal ID coins. Other than that.. depends on the item.[/b]
07/17/2006 at 12:28 pm #1763568I put my keychains into caches as as an additional little “calling card” to show I was there. I don’t mind at all if someone wants to take one to add to their collection.
I suppose it would be nice to follow the “even trade” guideline: If you are collecting other people’s signature items, you could come up with one of your own to leave in caches for other people to collect as well.
08/22/2006 at 9:06 pm #1763569I know this is an old post…
I’ve collected afew sig items, as part of my trading at a cache. Though I’m not sure that they should be counted as trade items. I don’t leave one of our sig items as a trade for something I take out (unless it was another sig item) though I may just leave sig items in addition to the trade or alone if I “TN”
I think you should leave your own sig item if you take one there. I’m not sure about leaving someone elses sig item that you found earlier in another cache, unless I know they have done that cache. I like to think of sig items along the lines of us both having done the same cache, so there is a sort of connection there, but I think going to the Nth degree stuff is too much for sig items.
08/22/2006 at 9:40 pm #1763570We have an altered coin holder that holds some of the things we collect, mostly pins and our personal coins. One of Greyhounders tokens has a place of honor there too. We will have it with us at Rib MTN Sat.

Yeah, why is it that people put these in caches? I bet I’ve done a dozen caches in my area that have had used golf balls in them. When I first started caching, I thought it was a joke, and then later thought it might be a sig item. Now, I’m just sick of seeing them.
Rusted bolts and rocks are also not good tradables.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a new sleeve of golf balls…I know that I go through them quick enough that I can always use more. 😉 😀
08/25/2006 at 5:25 pm #1763573Check out this web page for some great ideas on signature items. http://www.geocities.com/team_fisur/geo-creations/index.html#C
08/26/2006 at 1:02 am #1763574MIGO has a very nice database of signature items that people submit when they find. It is made up mostly of items from Michigan, but there are some out of state teams on the list. In fact, there is a listing for the following teams from Wisconsin… house of brew, Snowgoose Two, Rubeeslpr, SS Bing, and Timberline Echoes. It is really pretty cool, you can check it out here…
