what i like the best about this game is that everyone can play the way they want. it seems that a lot of people are now making small, very hard to find micro caches. maybe they don’t want me to find them. but i know a lot of people really like that kind of hide. more power to you.
i have decided that micros and i just do not mix. i am really tired of the micro in the guardrail, or the micro in the woods. so the very easiest thing to do is just not hunt them. and i still have 500 caches within 27 miles of my home. how very freeing this is.08/03/2007 at 3:19 am #1877585My favorite caches are the good old ammo boxes hidden way out in the woods. I’m not a huge fan of micros, but I admit some are fun. I go after micros if they are near other caches, or on the way to a cache. I refuse, however, to hunt any micro that is the old film canister hidden in a bed of 10,000 rocks 😛
08/03/2007 at 4:34 am #1877586ditto on ammo cans in woods, or any large container
and I hate Xmas tree hides with micro’s….

Big, tall or small, I hunt em all. But like you, I prefer the good ol ammo box in the woods. I do think, that there is room enough in this game for all to hunt what they like, and let others hunt the ones that they dont care for. Micros can be quite fun, if they are clever, or if they take ya to an interesting historical or scenic spot. However, djwini is correct in that too many are kinda boring if they are just stuck in a pine tree or a guardrail in an uninspiring location.

08/03/2007 at 1:44 pm #1877588I too prefer the bigger containers, but I’ve discovered that the micro in the guardrail can be nice when you’re out biking around an area. They give a good excuse to take a short break when traveling between the larger ones.
08/03/2007 at 2:30 pm #1877589I prefer to hide large caches such as ammo boxes when I make my hides. However, that isn’t always possible.
The best thing to do when hiding micros is to make SURE YOU PROVIDE A CLUE. After all most of the hides are to keep the cache from getting muggled not to keep cachers from locating the cache.
08/03/2007 at 2:50 pm #1877590I tend to avoid micros … unless I’m real near them doing larger caches, or I’m specifically doing city caches. For me geocaching is about long walks in the woods and finding something “treasure like” in the end.
BUT I’m not against micros … after all the system tells you what size each one is, so I can choose to find what I want … so I see no problem.
08/03/2007 at 6:59 pm #1877591I’m not a fan of micros either. Which is interesting ’cause I have six nanos out here in Point. But it’s an easy way to bring people to smaller local parks they’d probably pass up otherwise, ’cause it’s just not doable to hide the nice ammo cans there. I’ve actually been surprised by how many people have nice things to say about finding them. 8)

-katyA note about your nanos:
You usually provide a clue and most of the nanos NEED to be nanos or micros because of the area or park that you put them in. Your hides are not deceptive as they are usually in a “likely” spot. You have done well with your hides.
08/03/2007 at 9:28 pm #1877593OK, some one has to be first……………….so,
I like micros! I prefer micros when I hide a cache.
Why? Because I’m not into trading things, so the find is the only thing I’m concerned about.
And, consider that many caches are in urban area, where large or regular sized container will not work. Yes, there are some places where an ammo box would fit, but ………..
I also consider micros more flexible, in making those evil hides which some people find hard to find. Well, that’s the way it is.
Micros are here to stay, so everyone will have to adjust somehow. Ignore them, or hunt them, or whatever you choose.
08/03/2007 at 10:31 pm #1877594I like any cache, no matter what, although I do favor the larger containers in the woods or the fields. I actually find myself hiding more micros these days, but they’re easier to find hiding places for and to replace if stolen. I recently put one in a guardrail, but it was placed near a point of interest and is easy for those who are physically impaired to get to.

I’ll echo these points. I’m an equal opportunity cacher; I’ll go after most anything, although the one thing I tend not to get too excited over is when someone hides a match holder or film container in a place that easily could support a full-sized cache.

I don’t trade much either, but I do enjoy rummaging through the “treasures” found in large caches. Some of them bring back memories. Ever pop open an ammo box and find a trade items that causes you to think “…Oh yeahhhh, I remember THAT Happy Meal!”

No, and I would not want to!!
08/04/2007 at 1:13 am #1877598Another vote for a big old ammo box at the end of a nice hike in the woods or some other wild place, but we go after them all, too. The ones I *really* have learned to dislike are rock pile hides!
If they’re in our 50 mile radius, we’ll hunt ’em, though. The Merrillan Dam one is on that list. Sigh.
