I am wondering if there would be interest in creating a Phone a Friend list for Wisconsin Cachers. I myself have many cachers phone numbers in my phone, but sometimes just dont have the right person to call
Info that would be on the list would be:
Caching Name:
Real First Name(s):
Home town/City:
Zip Code:
Cell number (include area code):
Home Number (include area code):
Direct Connect # (if you have one):
Acceptable times to call:
email address:The only way to get the list would be to have your name on the list.
Would email the list out monthly to all on the list.
If you remove your name from the list, you would not recieve the monthly updates.
I would be willing to manage the list, and keep up on the monthly mailings.
Please post if you would have any interest in being on a PAF list.
10/06/2011 at 3:11 am #1953713I was just thinking of something like this, I’m in.
10/06/2011 at 3:32 am #1953714Just gave my # to rogosurveyor 5 minutes ago. Since we have over 300 hides a lot of cachers have our # already. I probably get about 10 calls a week now. I call for hints at least once every week. I’m selective on who I give the # out to, but might be interested.
10/06/2011 at 3:40 am #1953715While I think this is a great idea in concept, there’s no way I’m going to risk one rogue bogus “member” being able to snatch the entire list and exploiting my cell number or other info. I’ll stick with my current option of contacting a cacher directly for contact info.
I’m also a little concerned about the risk / exposure that the WGA may / may not have from this effort.

10/06/2011 at 11:14 am #1953717The PAF list would not be part of the WGA. it could be done a couple of ways, as a offline list that is stored on a personal computer in spreadsheet format. or on a online google doc that would be accessible by invitation only.
I would rather have it offline myself.
there is 225 members on the Michigan List, and it has been around since about 1994 with no problems of Rouge cachers using the list for other purposes.
10/06/2011 at 1:43 pm #1953718Interesting concept. Personally, I don’t think I would be a participant. Just don’t give out my cell number. I can see how certain individuals would use this as an aid or assistance, but I’m a newer cacher with an old time attitude. I like to do my own work and if it involves more then one visit to score a find, that’s part of the game. For me, DNF’s go with the finds.
10/06/2011 at 10:05 pm #1953719I agree that it should not be part of the WGA site.
the google doc idea is a good oneDisclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.
10/06/2011 at 11:33 pm #1953720I myself enjoy making a PAF (especially on a mystery cache final if I cant seem to locate it) and I also enjoy being a PAF if need be.
But Im not really sure if I would like to make a call to someone that I have not met.
So im just gonna stick to going to WGA events and other events to create a bond with my fellow enthusiasts and if we exchange numbers to help out when either of us are in the other cachers area then thats great!!!!10/06/2011 at 11:40 pm #1953721Agree with Smashing Ground here. I’ll just stick with texting people I already have met. As for my own hides, they are all pretty straightforward finds. I don’t get DNF’s on them unless they go missing so I don’t worry about anyone trying to get a hold of me on my own caches.
10/07/2011 at 12:23 am #1953722Were up for that I have a few cacher’s numbers but I know I have some tough caches that might be a food PAF cache

10/07/2011 at 12:12 pm #1953725I think I would rather keep my number off the list. I like Smashing exchange numbers with cachers I have meet. Suprised I did not get one from the Appletown bus tour the other day on two of my caches. Oh well it’s there DNF

Good observation and catch! Makes me wonder what pre-GC was for.
