Some of the other boards I frequent have the ability to give feedback or “pips” to others for useful, insightful or just plain funny posts and comments, and I thought this might be a fun addition to the boards here. Just floating the balloon to see if it flies…
10/10/2007 at 9:27 pm #1879919That sounds like an awesome idea for improving my WGA Experience!! π
10/10/2007 at 10:01 pm #1879920ok, i’m not big with forums and what forums i am in, are simple like this one, and all i do is post.. what exactly is a “Pip” and whats the difference then just posting a reply? i’m now confused.. could you explain a little bit more?
10/11/2007 at 12:54 am #1879921a Pip is just giving someone Props for Good things, or Funny Posts, or whatever the Person giving the Pip Feels necessary…
So, I guess I won’t get any!!!!!!
10/11/2007 at 2:43 am #1879922so why not just make a post???
10/11/2007 at 1:44 pm #1879923Okay Linds, it goes this way. At the bottom of a post, it will give you the opportunity to click a button that will give a feedback point, or a pip. Then in your little sidebar with your avatar you’ll have a stat bar showing your feeback score. Just a silly way of showing who’s active and who’s providing structure to the conversations. A post counter pretty much does the same thing, but doesn’t have the “fun factor”.
Soooo…. If you made me laugh, or gave me something to chew on, I may give you positive feedback other than a post. Gives the lurkers something to do, and it’s anonymous for those who don’t want to speak up. Usually when you give a pip you can type a quick line of text explaining why, only visible to the poster.
Interesting?
10/11/2007 at 2:27 pm #1879924ok, yea thats interesting! seems like it would be fun!
10/11/2007 at 4:18 pm #1879925OK then, let’s put it to a vote. All in favor say Aye! Or is it I? Or is it Eye? π
10/11/2007 at 11:38 pm #1879926E, I, E, I OH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read your title and I thought this was about Gladys Knight and the Pips groupies….. π³
Balloon flies fine when Diana Ross sings about it… π―
Maybe my moniker can be Gladys Knight and the Pip π
Enough Already… π

10/12/2007 at 3:24 am #1879928I belong to a hunting site that gives karma points, positive or negative. It is my belief is that all it does is makes it a popularity contest.

Good point, I change my vote to nay. Or is it nea? Or even na? π
10/12/2007 at 5:31 pm #1879930Sounds easy enough to implement… so you’d click a button or something on someone’s post, and then you could give a pip/karma point/thumbs up or thumbs down, and optionally enter a comment that only the original poster could see?
Would there be some sort of limit on how many pips you could give in a day/week? And a limitation on how many you could give to one individual?

Would there be any benefit to having this feature and NOT displaying someone’s “score”? I would think you could always PM some to give them a thumbs up/pip/or karma point, but it may not be as convenient…
Looks like the new version of phpBB has a feature along these lines called “Friends and Foes”. If you mark someone as a friend, all their posts are specially marked and appear in a special Friends section. If you mark someone as a foe, their posts are not displayed to you at all. You can optionally make the “Friends and Foes” information public… so you could see how many friends and foes an individual has.

I’d vote “no” on adding that feature. I successfully graduated from junior high school a long time ago and feel no need to return.
10/14/2007 at 4:27 am #1879932Maybe I’m just dense, but I don’t see the point. I vote “ne”.
