Do we have to get permission to place caches on National Forest land in Wisconsin?
02/01/2009 at 7:35 pm #1901546Here is some information.
Here is one forests policy:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/cnnf/rec/geochaching.htmlOther forests may have other policies. You might want to look at the particular forests website….and don’t call them a “Park” on the cache page; they hate that.
It was discussed in this thread to some extent.

I was planning on planting a few in the Nicolet forests. My father lives right on the border of it. We also bear hunt the forest in the summer months as well.

Might be some level 5 difficulty caches listed if there’s a good chance of being eaten by bears.

Forest county is the county I was raised in, more specifically around Wabeno.
02/03/2009 at 1:51 am #1901551I know of many caches just south of Wabeno in the Nicolet. I am not aware of any special reporting or permissions needed. We have had some muggling problems with caches, and are aware of a few others, and have wondered if maybe these were done by some misguided “friends of the forest”, or just plain vandals…
If you have not hunted caches in northern Oconto / southern Forest Counties, you need to! There are many great caches in that area.
Anyway, there are still many other beautiful areas up there, with lots of room for terrific caches. We’ll look forward to seeing some more pop up.
