EnergySaver and Ecorangers would like to co-host an Event in the future but would like some guidance. Does anyone have an outline, guideline, checklist or any ideas on what we can do to have a successful event? Thanks in advance for your response. Tami & Ron

09/04/2004 at 12:33 pm #1747810Come on all of you experienced “hosters.” There’s more of you out there than just one. I will contact Trudy and the Beast in a few weeks. Until then, “bring it on.”
If Ron and I feel comfortable about co-hosting an event, we have Cathunter to blame because he planted a little bug in my ear a while back. Tami09/04/2004 at 3:40 pm #1747811quote:

It must be annoying with that chain and tag hanging out.
The WGA events (my sole experience) are committee/democracy driven which is a whole lot different than the effort of a single cache-host-meister. In other words, what you as the sole organizer says, goes.
IMHO, Cheesehead Dave’s June soiree was near perfect. I would defer to him in such matters.
09/05/2004 at 2:32 pm #1747812What kind of event are you thinking about hosting? A breakfast, pot luck, social only, social and caching, geo-dashing?
The first step is always to decide where you will be hosting the event. Then you need to reserve a room or shelter or picnic area. If you will be caching, you need to secure permission to hide caches.
I think the biggest challenge is placing temp cache. You need to make them creative, get accurate coordinates, and prepare the handouts.
I might be able to give you a little more help, but it would be good to know what type of event you’re thinking about having.
09/05/2004 at 9:46 pm #1747813Grousetales, I will drop you an email with what we have in mind so far … we can’t spill the beans to everyone at this point. I hope you can keep under your HAT, what we tell you.

Howl at the Moon, but turn off your lights first09/07/2004 at 10:56 pm #1747814Thanks everyone for your input. I guess I also wanted info here for others who are thinking about hosting an event to gather. Why should everyone have to re-invent the wheel when it is all ready out there? Ron and I are still at the infantile stages of this event. Thanks again. Tami

Sounds like an article of the month in the making.
09/08/2004 at 10:05 pm #1747816Just to warn you all … I took too much NyQuil last night … I dreamed many cool/nasty ideas for temporary hides … things you’ve never seen in your life, guaranteed!
09/08/2004 at 10:08 pm #1747817If your daughter helps with the hides .. someone please help us all in finding them!
09/10/2004 at 4:24 pm #1747818No fears … my kids don’t want to help hide them, as they want to find them “just like the other geocachers” … so if you can’t find them, just follow my 12 yr old around. (FYI, in theory the plan is for EcoRangers to hide half and EnergySaver the other half, so I get to hunt some too!)
We don’t have a date picked yet, and we have not gotten permission for our hopeful location yet … but as of last night I’ve figured out the theme, what each of my containers will be and what they will each be called … can you say “15 step multi-branching multi-temp-cache, that ends with a big surprise ending that I will not even reveal to EcoRangers”!
09/10/2004 at 4:32 pm #1747819For those who do not know, Energy Savers 12 year old daughter is an incredible finder! It is like she could “feel” them as we approached at the WGA picnic.
Thus, my comment if she hid them, we would really have some challenging finds!

I just got word that our “dream site” for the event has been approved by the facility manager. Now you all will have to wait out the winter, while we plan the event and lock in a date … stay tuned, for the future reveal.
Any more comments and suggestions are welcome. But we’ve made it past the major hurdles regarding the facility that ecorangers and energysaver really love and want to use. Yipee!
10/15/2004 at 1:35 am #1747821I too have been planning and scheming…It will be well worth the wait! Thanks to everyone for participating in this thead and to Ron especially for getting the green light at our #1 choice site. Tami
