Our family desperatly needs a very special kind of help and perhaps you or someone you know can provide it. My husband, Larry, has been fighting a rare liver disease for the past 13 years. It has now reached the stage where his very survival depends on a liver transplant.

Larry has been on the ‘liver donor list’ at UW-Madison Hospital but due to the national chortage of viable organs we are increasingly fearful that a liver will not become available until it is too late. Larry is in agonizing pain which is diminishing his food intake. The result has been a loss of 30 pounds.

There are two ways you can help us locate a liver donar for Larry. One option is if you, your doctors, friends, family or co-workers know of someone who has just suffered a severe accident or medical condition and is on life support. That person’s family might consider a direct, designated donation to Larry. Larry’s name must be specified for him to receive the intended liver. We have listed the donor requirements below.

Another option would be to find a living and healthy donor (with similar characteristics to those listed below) who could donate a portion of their liver to Larry. Healthy livers regenerate to their normal size within several weeks of donation. Larry’s family cannot donate because the disease is hereditary.

Larry and I have been married 23 years and have three wonderful children: Ryan 17, Chris 14 and Katie 13. My hope is for Larry to see all three of his children graduate and to walk his daughter down the aisle and hold his first grandchild. Larry has always been a very loving and involved dad and we cannot imagine our lives without him. Larry can lead a normal life again if he receives a liver donation.

We are asking for your help in locating a donor. Please call if you know of anyone who may be able to donate. And, please tell everyone you have contact with about Larry’s need for a living or designated life-support donor. You can make a great difference in our lives. Please call the numbers below if you think you may have information that could help make our dreams a reality. With your help and God’s grace, we can locate the donor that will save Larry’s life.

    Desperately,
    Debbie Schroeder
