Lessons learned while geocaching
#1 – Pay attention while you are driving.
#2 – DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR GPSr while driving.
#3 – DO NOT READ A CACHE PAGE while driving
#4 – DO NOT READ THE MAP ON A CACHE PAGE while driving.Or you will kill your car.
Seriously
Please pay attention while you are driving on the road. I am lucky to be alive and wanted to spread the word so that others do not have to be “lucky” as well.

11/17/2007 at 3:01 am #1881231I guess this is not a joke…………….
😥
11/17/2007 at 3:31 am #1881232Glad you’re okay -cheeto-, I do believe that there are cachers who will heed your warning. I also believe there are those who will not. 🙁 😯 🙁

11/17/2007 at 3:33 am #1881234So what does your wife say about geocaching now?
I am glad you are OK. I am always getting those glances while taking quick turns to get to the cache.
11/17/2007 at 3:46 am #1881235Wow….good advice.
On a related note, I recently posted a personal best 6 U turns made for a single cache. Can anyone beat that?

11/17/2007 at 7:49 am #1881237As marc mentions — this is absolutely no joke. That was my car after an accident on the road while geocaching on my lunch hour. As you may guess it is a “total loss” and I am “lucky” I did not lose anything beside my car and that the other driver also came away walking.
I do have a sense of humor regarding the whole thing I just wanted to make sure I spread the word on inattentive driving and what can happen.
Thanks for listening 😀
PS – My wife still dislikes my addiction to geocaching. (She does not dislike geocaching!)
It will be tough to get out on the trail without transportation let alone getting to and from work! I am pretty hesitant even to get into a car these days….
11/17/2007 at 12:03 pm #1881238Hang in there Cheeto. Heed your lesson as well as others should heed the lesson. It will be on my mind today as I am out caching.
11/17/2007 at 12:15 pm #1881239You’re now the second person I know of who has had an accident directly related to geocaching. I’ll admit that I input coords while driving. I think I’ll stop that practice.
Thanks for the reality check.
11/17/2007 at 2:59 pm #1881240Holy cow!! Glad to know everyone is OK.
I blew through a stop sign on a Racine Class B highway last fall and it was due to a combination of looking at my GPSr and heading directly into the setting sun. I didn’t see the sign until I was half way through the intersection. Luckily there was no cross traffic or I’d have been in the same boat.
Play safe out there guys.
11/17/2007 at 8:38 pm #1881241OH i hope you are ok?! god that sucks..
11/18/2007 at 5:21 am #1881242Cheeto, I’m glad that you (or others) weren’t injured. I can’t tell you how many times my wife has warned me about all of the things you listed in your post. I guess I have been lucky so far. I know that I’ll be extra careful next time I’m out caching.
11/18/2007 at 6:10 pm #1881243Wow, thanks for the wake up call. I always do that stuff while driving. I won’t anymore. I have had several close calls too. 😳 I am glad you are okay!
