I woke up to a mother duck and 10 ducklings in my pool this morning. It’s a partially drained in-ground pool and the mother duck could not get the ducklings out. I made a ramp, and let them be for several hours, but any time one was smart enough to get out with the ramp, the mother duck called it back into the pool. About an hour ago they started drowning or dying of hypothermia.
I grabbed my net after noticing the first one died, and started fishing them out one by one. Tragicly, only three survived in that short time.
I now have three ducklings anf the mother duck has abbandoned them. HELP! I’m keeping them warm and feeding them bread, but now what? I’m calling the local humane society, but thought I’d post this first. Anyone have room to adopt them or can tell me a place to take them? Trust me, they won’t survive with me, I am NEVER home. 🙁
They may not survive, anyway. Sometimes wildlife adapts to human care-taking, but usually, the stress of being removed from nature is fatal. I am 0 for everything on wildlife babies!
Good luck.
Try looking up Fellow Mortals, they’re out near Lake Geneva… Or you could try River Bend Nature Center in Racine…
If he Humane Society lets you down, I would try the DNR.
