Just out of curiosity, is anybody out there still Plucking & Spinning their pocket queries?

Quite a while ago I had a computer upgraded, and afterwards, Plucker simply refused to run. I then went out and got CacheMate. It is easier to go from pocket query file to the PDA using Cache mate, but I find that the output of Plucker/Spinner is much easier to use on my anchient PDA.

I now have installed both Plucker & Spinner on an old PC in the basement and it works wonderfully.

I am using GSAK, and outputting to CacheMate for PocketPC. I can just dump the Pocket Query to the PocketPC as well, but with GSAK, I can remove the stuff that I don’t want.

Cachemate gives you five codes when you pay the 8.00 you just have to send them a request if you get a different PDA either PocketPC, or Palm.

I started using a Palm Treo650, but swithed over to the PocketPC platform so that I can use all the other PocketPC programs.

Never used Plucker or Spinner.

Tie, I still use Spinner/Plucker! I also do have cachemate installed. My preference is the old Spinner/Plucker just because of the functionality. I know it is really getting to be “old school”. I will now prep files “both ways” and am trying to get used to cachemate.

Ecorangers are still in Spinner/Plucker world too.

Yes, but the shorter half of that team is barely computer literate! But she can come to my last paperpless class, so there is hope!

Yes, your workshop is a great place to learn the in’s & out’s of cachemate. It is MUCH easier and MUCH quicker to load up.

I still run plucker/spinner.

I’m not too crazy about the configuration apect, but I like the finished product in my pda.

I used plucker/spinner when I first started out but switched to Cachemate rather quickly mostly for the ease of use. I do still prefer the “look” of using plucker/spinner but just isn’t as easy or as quick to get ready for a geocaching outing.

I started out using Plucker and Spinner and really liked it. I was reluctant to switch over to Cachemate, mostly because I liked saying “plucker” 😀 . But I’ve been using Cachemate for a while now (about 2 years?) and it serves me well.

There’s still a lot I don’t know about Cachemate yet though. I’m working on my schedule to be able to get up to Appleton for Marc’s class.

We use Plucker/Spinner too. We’re really happy with how it works with the Palm. The only complaint is with large queries (usually 350+ caches). Plucker takes a long time to update the channels. We’re still running XP on both our desktop and laptop computers, so until we upgrade later this year to either a PC with Vista or a Mac, we think we’ll stick with this.

Marc, you are so right!!!! I can’t even figure out how to “quote” you here so everyone knows what I am talking about. I’m so old school that today I printed off multi and puzzle caches that I will be hunting over Easter Break coming up!

Marc, I’m looking forward to attending your Puzzle event but I’m passing on the paperless event. You are single, you do everything…..I’m married, I chose NOT to (learn) to do everything (smiles). Tami

If anyone has figured out how to get Cachemate/GSAK to work with Windows Vista I would owe you a beer!!! Ever since I bought my computer, I can’t use it!! 🙁

I would recommend that you take your computer back and get it converted back to XP. I don’t see any significant moves by ANYONE toward mainstream adoption of Vista. In fact, if you buy a computer from Milwaukee PC, they will refuse to sell you a computer with Vista and tell you that they cannot support it if you go out and buy your own copy. The phrase “not ready for prime time” seems to come to mind. Remember that Microsoft has had many examples of Windows versions which never became popular and faded into obscurity. (97, ME, Bob)

And, if you really want to keep Vista, try turning off all the security features and then turning them back on one at a time until it breaks GSAK. Alternatively, you should just go to the GSAK support forums and get help from the people there. Describe in your post SPECIFICALLY what is happening, not just “I can’t use it”, and they will provide you with a solution to your problem.
