I’ve never had trouble getting one of these to come immediately to our email before. I’m trying to learn how to use GSAK and our Palm, and the pocket query I ran has not arrived yet. It’s been a couple hours now.
My like has been useless as it is, I really don’t need one more thing going wrong. Someone please tell me it’s just gc.com or something today.

The most likely reason for a requested PQ not to run is that you already ran that PQ within 7 days. It wont run the same one twice in one week. To get around this, just create a different PQ. It can even be one that will capture the same info.
A second possible reason that a requested PQ wont come is that you already ran your limit of 5 PQs for the day. There is no way around this that I know of, but ya get 5 more tommorrow.

12/12/2007 at 11:31 pm #1882031Slight correction to Zuma’s post. When the PQ generator runs, it gives priority to queries that were last run long ago (or never). If you ran your query recently, it will fall to bottom of the list. Even if you just ran the query a few minutes ago, it will EVENTUALLY run, but that might be 12 hours later. If they are really busy, it might even fall to the next day (where it gets prioritized towards the bottom of the list again!)
So, making a new query works. So does being patient. You get to choose which.
12/12/2007 at 11:46 pm #1882032I just ran a PQ for Menominie and I got the e-mail within probably 30 seconds.
12/13/2007 at 1:38 am #1882033It’s just the way my life is going lately, I guess. I haven’t run a pocket query in a couple weeks, and never this one. So go figure. I guess I can look at it like this; I’ve had so many rotten tomatoes thrown at me lately, there can’t be very many left. 🙁
12/13/2007 at 2:44 pm #1882034I’m just wondering why I don’t receive emails when I do a PQ. Any time I run one, there is a link posted to the top of the page that reads ‘You can preview the search on the nearest cache page.’ So that is where I view my PQ. It always shows up instantly, but I’ve yet to get any email on any PQ I’ve run. Any thoughts on this?

Perhaps the email address you originally supplied is no longer active or filters out the query…On the bottom of the query submission page they give you the option to have it sent to an “alternate email”…give that one a try with another address if you have one.

The system has the correct address I suspect, or I wouldn’t be getting my regular account e-mails. I’ve also tried using the e-mail insert at the bottom before to send to one of my alternate addresses, and still don’t get them. It’s not a big deal that I’m not getting them because I always get the list as I mentioned above. I’m just curious why it happens.
12/13/2007 at 4:17 pm #1882037I assume you have looked in your “Spam” or “Junk” folders for the emails also? If you do find them there you will need to add the sender to the “Approved list” in your settings….also are the two email address you have used from different companies (like one from Hotmail and one from Yahoo or Charter for example)…beyond that I’m at a loss for why you’d not be getting them.
12/13/2007 at 7:13 pm #1882038Based on what has been said/try so far this is a mystery.
One more thing you might try … use the “alternate email address” field and really DO use an alternate email address (rather than your normal one) … have it email to a friend or setup another email address to send it to. The ideal test subject, would be someone else that currently gets the files sent just fine from their own geocaching.com account.
If it gets to that email address, then the most logic problem is some sort of “spam block” issue as others have stated; but if it still doesn’t come to that person, then maybe your geocaching.com account is stuck in some way.
However, one thing that doesn’t help … is the 5 attempts per day “rule” … if you already “tried” that many times today, don’t bother trying this test today … as they failed attempts likely count just as much as a successful one would.
12/13/2007 at 7:25 pm #1882039Or, if you are impatient and don’t like solving puzzles(!), you can send an email to [email protected] and they will take a look. It is possible that you have somehow created a PQ with no caches, but more than likely, something is wrong.

I’ve got a hotmail address, and MSN address, and a RR address and have tried them all in the alternate address field. Still don’t get any e-mails.

Good idea, I’ll send one now. I’m sure it’s not a mistake like having a PQ with no caches, because this happens every time. And, like I stated befroe, I still get the full PQ on the following page after it’s submitted. I just don’t ever get the e-mail.
Maybe that’s the whole issue? Does everyone get the PQ on the page following the submission, or do you have to wait for the e-mail to view the contents of your PQ?
12/13/2007 at 9:58 pm #1882042the page shows up right away ….the email can take several minutes or longer to arrive.
12/14/2007 at 1:04 am #1882043I’m experiencing the exact same issues….I can see the preview page, which is typical, but have not received the PQ via email, which has always happened before. Normally I can just look at the preview, but I’m trying to go paperless and need to load something into GSAK to play around and figure out how it works. I wish I’d saved the files emailed to me for old pocket queries, just so I could play around with all the new toys.
Oh well, we seem to have managed to find over 1000 without anything other than a plain ol’ GPSr, maybe we’ll continue in that mode for now.
