I often wonder what the economic impact is when the WGA holds an event.

When we have our camp-out, many people are buying park stickers, renting hotel rooms, purchasing gas and food, dining a local restaurants, and visiting local attractions. This all adds up, and when we have around 250 people attending an event, I would guess we have a significant impact on the local economy.

Please take a moment to add up your receipts and take my poll below. If you attended the 2007 Geo Camp-out, how much money did you spend in Waupaca County?

For those who helped hide caches, you can include any money you spent in Waupaca on trips related to the camp-out.

This poll will be open for 7 days.

We probably spent more than most people since we stayed at the Best Western. Throw in a supper on Saturday and gas for the trip home and it adds up fast.

Information like this could be extremely helpful for the folks gathering data to present to the Brown county parks committee meeting early next month. Please participate in the survey if you were part of the campout.

Count me in for 2 nights in a hotel, one supper and one breakfast.

My personal impact was rather low, since I was staying at my parents house less than 5 miles away. Food was free, bed was free and I had enough gas to get from Madison and back again without filling up, especially since Mom drove to and from the park and we stuck to doing the temporary caches only. Did eat lunch at Subway though and bought a year long park sticker, so I guess that is better than nothing. 🙂

Had this been somewhere else NOT in my backyard, I would have probably spent close to $250 between hotel, food and gas. Just “food” for thought.

Comfort Suites for two nights, gas, food at two restaurants, 2 park stickers and a book at the park…. think that’s it…

Let’s see…. $10 for the park pass, $8 for dinner at Culvers, $35 to get that Cougar to Eau Claire.

You can let Brown County know that back before I instituted my Boycot of their county, I averaged about $70 per trip out that way.

I didn’t include our $25 for the park pass. Does that money stay in the county or go to the state?

It probably goes to the state, but for the purpose of this survey, if you spent the money in Waupaca, you can count it.

I think it still puts us in the same range. $251-300.

Sorry I can’t help here. I already had my bike and park passes, didn’t buy gas and I bought my beer in Stevens Point. Since I came in from the west I never passed a business in Waupaca Co.
