It appears that Wisconsin has exactly ONE cacheless county: Kewaunee County. Merely an oversight, or something more sinister? Hmmm…

      Place one!
If you live in or near Kewaunee County, place a cache here. With the traffic in and out of Door County, the cache would be in an ideal spot to draw some visitors.

True, but I’m not as familiar with Kewaunee County as I’d like to be in order to place a well-designed cache, but I will certainly get out a map and see what areas may be good. The obvious areas are along Hwy. 57 along the bay and Hwy. 42 along the lake, but perhaps there’s someplace in the interior… Does anybody else know Kewaunee County well?

Ideally someone who lives in that county would place a cache there because geocaching.com is trying to discourage “vacation” caches that are not easy for the owner to maintain on a regular basis.

An interesting notion about vavcation caches, as I live in southern Door County, and Door County seems to have a lot of these “vacation caches,” and as someone intimately familiar with all areas of Door County, I feel placement of a lot of them could be better.
Kewaunee Co. isn’t far from me, but I am unfamiliar with the interesting nooks and crannies of the land that make for an interesting placement. But I will get a map of the county and try to find someplace interesting. I just found it interesting that the of all the counties in the state, only ONE has ZERO placements.

We are working on one and maybe two caches to be placed in Kewaunee County in the middle of September. We started planning this when we noticed the same thing. If you can wait til then they will be ready.

There may not be a cache in Kewaunee County, but there is one just a mile north of the Kewaunee-Door county line in Forestville….

What’s this?…. Look who placed it!

I didn’t think close really counted. Seems like with a gps one could get closer than a mile to a county if one wanted. Even when we were on the wrong (European) datum when we first began, we could get to within a tenth of a mile of the cache.
        Just kidding! Happy Trails…

If someone had a twisted sense of humor, they would place a cache near one of the two nuclear power plants, but not TOO close, so that there’d be a 50/50 chance of some security guard with an automatic weapon popping up and asking what the hell we’re doing…
        Oh, the possibilities…
Hmmm, perhaps not a good idea…

There are more than a couple of geocachers working at those plants, as I am told by an insider.

I like the way you think. It had been a while since I’ve been in the area so I was surprised to see all the emergency sirens when we went to Point Beach State Forest for some biking and hiking last month. I’m sure the sirens have been there for many years…I just didn’t remember them.

No we didn’t get down to the far south end of the forest to seek “The Gang’s All Here”.

Last time I was at “the beach” it was for a tour of the storage pool and reactor 1 during a refueling outage. The hair on the back of my neck stood up the whole time I was inside the containment vessel. I’ll never forget the electric blueish color of the pool…

Arn & I have LaSalle’s Surprise just 1.2 miles NE of the Kewaunee-Door county line in Claybanks. I looked at the Nearby caches but can’t see your Forestville cache listed. What’s it called, I’d like to hunt it next time up

Regarding Door County vacation caches… I can’t speak for everyone, but I tend to be up there 2-3 times a year, on occasion I’m up just for the day. If a problem ever developed that couldn’t wait, I could easily be on site within a day.

If we get our WGA Cache Patrol in place, it will be even easier. I had a DC cache sort of go missing (its a long story) once, and Hotdogs Off Trail, the original proposer of the Cache Patrol concept, replaced it for us.

Hmmm… “Dam, Where’s that Cache?” shows up when you search zip code 54235 (Sturgeon Bay area) and it’s on the Geocaching.com map of the state of WI, although it’s no longer highlighted as a new cache, even though a first find hasn’t been logged yet. (Seems to me that a new cache should be highlighted until a find is logged, hmmm?) When I went to “LaSalle’s Surprise” it shows up as the nearest cache…

          #1745898

Got it! Thanks… justed needed to know its name I guess

The ‘New’ tag drops off of a cache based on how long its been since it went online, not based on if its been found or not. There are some caches that due to their difficulty may not have a first find for months, some even a year, and they would not be considered a new cache for that long.

There is now a cache in Kewaunee County and thanks to Whats Next I know the coordinates are now correct. There might be more to come soon? So seek it out and let us know what you think.
