I’ve been contacted, through the geocaching.com relay, by a local reporter. Before I respond, do those of you that have been interviewed for print have any words of wisdom or caution? One thing I’ve thought about is that I don’t want my geocaching name connected/printed along with my real name.

      Any advice? – bnb

Who did you speak with, Megan from Eau Claire? I spoke to her yesterday and she is looking to interview some cachers from the Eau Claire area.

I need to get back to her with some names. If you’re interested in being interview, let me know. Bobcat and FOEFN come to mind.

No, this was Tom Giffey from the Eau Claire Leader Telegram. I’d be interested in being interviewed as long as I can keep my bnb identity out of it. I like being able to have that connected to my name only within the geocaching community.

It appears Tom Giffey got a geocaching.com account for the purposes of using the relay to contact cachers. Unfortunately, since he has never found a cache I cannot use the same method to respond to him to see what he’s after. I don’t have a problem being interviewed, I’d just like to know more details before committing.

Feel free to pass on my name to your contact. Leave out any reference to bnb and just give her the netscape address you already have for me.

I’m sure Tom Giffey will have contacted FOEFN and Bobcat simply because they are such a strong presence here. If you have other info I’d be happy to pass it on to them and see if we could do something together.

Yep, already been contacted also from “Giffy”. I said yes to the interview and invited him to go on a cache hunt. I also asked permission to pass along his request for information to other cachers in the area and I was specifically thinking of you, bnb.

I guess I would prefer to use my “handle” but not against using my name.

I too am looking for words of wisdom from others who have participated in articles in the local papers.

And hey GrouseTales, who’s Megan? Competition for the storyline? Is she from the Leader-Telegram (the local paper) or maybe from the Chippewa Herald? Or was it the Dunn County News?

In any case, please make a point to mention that geocaches are not allowed to be buried. Burying of caches is a common misconception among the unknowing. We take all possible precautions to ensure that the environment is not negatively effected by our sport. The CITO theme is also great for promoting geocaching.
I also avoid the term “ammo” can. Some people are anti-gun or anti-ammo. Tupperware or other weatherproof containers are user-friendly terms.

I’m sure you will do great!

I was interviewed a couple of years ago for a short story in the Oshkosh Northwestern. Even made front page. The reporter was invited to do a cache with me, but declined. I agree to choose your words wisely. Good luck!

It’s not on there and they all ready have Monday stuff on their web site. I don’t think it will show up on their website. I have never seen any of these types on things on their website.

The Eau Claire Channel 13 news announced that Sunday’s Leader Telegram would include an article on Geocoaching (that’s how they spelled and pronounced it.) Couldn’t find anywhere near the cabin that sold the paper so I couldn’t check out the aritcle. I hope they spelled it right!
