First, congrats to the Hacks for their POTM! Though, is she finding a cache, or hiding one? Hmmm….

Second, I wasn’t aware there was a POTM. I know it was being discussed in the COTM thread, but I thought it was just another idea. I’ve been here for about a month now, and joined both FB groups a couple of weeks ago, and this was the first I’ve heard of it.

Perhaps that’s the problem with the COTM. It gets mentioned once a month on the various formats, and that’s it. Personally, I’m the type that, if I didn’t have a photo now to enter in POTM, I’d probably forget about it if I had one a couple of weeks later without some reminder. And as announcements and such move older stuff down on the main page, I might not always see it. Are there still CITO events going on? 🙂

    Am I making sense?

Last month was the first month for POTM.  Its currently being run on Facebook, but definitely a valid point.

Compounding on what Pixiestix said, last year we tried a POTM on FB and it was quite successful so it was decided in February to try it again and now again in March. POTM should have been a separate topic from COTM so it didn’t get buried but a lot of people kept it going; which is a very good thing! We are currently trying to get members more involved with the different tools the WGA offers so keep checking back on the site for updates including webpage improvements.

And yes, there are CITO events coming up. Here is the link for easy access: http://www.wi-geocaching.com/events/. We also send out event reminders once a week on the WGA FB page.

The CITO comment was sort of a joke on how, as new announcements are made, it’s harder to see older ones. Depending on screen size, the COTM & POTM announcements bumped the CITO announcement down far enough that unless someone scrolls to be reminded of it, it can be missed. It’ll only take one or two more announcements for the POTM announcement to get bumped down.

I’ve already checked out the upcoming CITO events, BTW, and am bummed that the closest one to me, the Hack/Wisjanine event, is at a day & time I can’t go. Kim made it sound really fun when I talked to her at the Chili event, but I’ve got a ticket to that day’s Brewers game. And, it’s Eric Thames bobblehead day. So, the closest I can get to practicing CITO that day is if I do the Earthcache near the one parking lot, and make sure any garbage accumulated throughout the game is properly disposed of.

Well you’re in luck since there is another CITO in the Milwaukee area the following Saturday April 28th at Mukwonago County Park.

I think the March picture of the month has already been lost in the shuffle.  My suggestion would be to start a new, clean post on FB every month for that month’s picture submissions.

The committee hasn’t yet posted the winner or set up April yet I would think very soon. The winner was lostcheq with her pic of Dr. D.

I like the idea of the POTM
