Have any of the current or newly nominated board persons had the opportunity to spread the word of geocaching via news articles?
01/10/2013 at 5:00 pm #1967028I haven’t via news articles but whenever I do awareness sessions or LNT Trainer sessions, I have been incorperating geocaching. One of the hand tags for Leave No Trace I hand out is specifically designed for geocaching. Plus, since my plates on my car is “CACHE”, I often have to answer questions on what that means which always ends up talking about geocaching.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Milwaukee area newspaper, did a story when I first started geocaching that featured myself and the ecorangers.
Greenfield Observer, our local community paper, sent a reporter who participated in our All A Glow Night Geocaching event, that she then wrote a story about.
Fox 6 news Milwaukee, prior to Vince Condella, I did a story with Ted Perry where he met me at Konkel Park and we went and found 2 geocaches with me.

01/12/2013 at 5:37 pm #1967031Back in March of 2006, WKOW TV wanted to do a news piece on Geocaching and I spent three hours taping about a 5 minute story with their news team. I picked out three caches to find (none of which I had found previously and could just see myself getting a DNF on TV) and we went out and taped the adventure. Interestingly, Marble Guy and June Bug who are now 2Crazies MSN, saw it and thought it was a neat game and got started by seeing that news cast. Ironically, several years later, they made the front page of the Wisconsin State Journal in an article about Geocaching.

01/13/2013 at 6:53 pm #1967033I was reminded at the event yesterday that I was also part of the group of geocachers that PBS Channel 10 followed around for a day attending an event in Green Bay years ago. We were filmed pursing the caches and then each interviewed. My favorite memory of that day was TamCo searching a dumpster .. and we asked the camera crew to please not film that.
I also did a radio interview in Illinois for a group of college students about 2 years ago. Panther in the Den invited me to join them that day. The students geocached with us and recorded us as we went along, asking us a series of questions. The story aired on their local radio station as part of a class project.
01/13/2013 at 11:26 pm #1967034Have not had my 15 minutes of fame yet, no TV spots for me or any articles in the paper
01/14/2013 at 6:05 pm #1967035I was called by a Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune Reporter, she said that a fellow cacher pis4piglet – Tammy Koch had given her my number and she had asked me all kinds of questions. The article appeared in the November 3, 2012 Daily Tribune under the title “Geocaching offers high-tech fun” by Deb Cleworth. She used mostley what Tammy had to say about caching. Of all the information that I provided her with she had only focused on what I had to say about how I started, about me getting a GPSr for Christmas, and about how I like to go after FTFs and about canoing the river in Ferurary for a FTF. I had shared so much more. But I can’t control what they print.
Thank you,
