In the course of geocaching, my interest in geology has been awakened. I’ve joined with a group of people in the northern Kettle Moraine that are affiliated with a gold prospecting organization. We both have much in common. As gold is so sparse in Wisconsin, the love of being outdoors is primary. However, land access is a problem and preconcieved notions must be overcome, just as we have problems in gaining permissions and reasonable policies.
I’m wondering if any other fellow geocachers are into prospecting? At our meeting, some prospectors indicated curiosity in geocaching. I believe we all fit together.

I do better with Montana Saphires, etc. Would be fun to go with ppl who know what they are doing and maybe actually FIND something, even though things are pretty scarce in WI.

I think it was an attempt at humor but the episode was about uncovering geodes, which are hollow crystal rocks. These were in Arizona.
We have an outing on property that a member owns near Rhinelander this weekend. Besides panning for gold and such, there will be metal detecting events kind of like the temporary caches at our events. Such outings are held frequently and some chapters travel to areas where the prospects are better, such as the Carolinas or to the western deserts. Did you know that there are areas where you can still “stake a claim” for the gold rights on public property? Check out http://www.goldprospectors.org

We have a lot in common. The GPAA is big into protecting public land acess rights. This and the love of being outdoors is what we have in common.
