Thanks 1PS as well as everyone else that has helped inform me on this Big decision.
I have decided on the Navigator NT and will go for TOPO later as I have the cash. I should have it for next weekends extreme cold caching, or a trip to Cabela’s. Either way I will have it. Now to study all of its features so I don’t go back to “Ol’ Yeller.”

Navigator is missing some of the information that I liked from the Topo maps though. And I’ve tried to load both like some folks have suggested but that isn’t working for me. As soon as I load Topo maps the Navigator maps go away and vice versa. I can go in and turn off all the Topo maps and just see the base map (or if Navigator is loaded I can turn it off and see the base map). But I have not been able to load both Topo and Navigator (but sure would like to).
OK, its sort of a “trick” to get Mapsource to load both sets of maps. The secret is that you have to load BOTH sets on the same load. So….
1. Open up Mapsource. Select the Topo maps and select all the segments you are interested in loading.
2. Switch Mapsource to the City Navigator maps. Select all the segments you want here.
3. Just to be safe, switch back to Topo and make sure everything is still selected. It should be. If not, maybe this won’t work with your particular version of Mapsource.
4. (Optional) Save the selection to disk so that you can recall the selections without having to manually select everything.
5. Send the selection to the GPS.Now, if you are in an area where you have both maps loaded, you should be able to switch back and forth (just like you could switch to the base map.) You should probably only load the TOPO segments for parks you are going to be in. As you know, the TOPO maps can be tricky for navigation. I have more than once tried to direct the driver down a power transmission line on the TOPO map. (She actually turned down the access road one time!)

Ah, thank you very much. This works perfectly.
01/29/2007 at 2:59 pm #1768993I have found the accuracy to be amazing. I would buy another one, and would recommend one to my best friend.
Hmmmmmmm. I wonder why One Paddle Short advised me to purchase the basic E-Trex $100 model. Hmmmmm In fact, even after I bought the Legend Cx he told me I should trade it in for a basic E-Trex model. I wonder if he is trying to tell me something!

Nope, I was trying to tell you something when I suggested you just tape some batteries to the bottom of your Boy Scout compass and try that for a couple of months…

Is that what you meant when you said I should go High-Tech? 💡
02/07/2007 at 12:22 pm #1768996Well, my 60csx arrived last night, I haven’t even attempted a cache with it or for that matter left the house other than acquire a signal when I turned it on for the first time. Once the signal is caught I was getting 25 ft accuracy in the dining room. So far I love it. Can’t wait ti make it navigate me to work.
02/13/2007 at 12:52 am #1768997I finally got my new GPS60cx out on the road and ran it through it’s paces. It worked great and it made the road trip that much easier. However, at one point the detailed mapping all went away and reverted back to the base map. I opened the unit and found the SD card had slipped out of position. I was sure it was in correctly and locked in place. I didn’t bump the gps at all so not sure why that happened. I guess it is possible that the Kingston SD card wasn’t a glove like fit after all.
In all this first real outing with it went very well and I’m primed for the next trip…….I can highly recommend this unit (so far). But then again I made it to 600 with my Garmin Vista just fine too 😉
