If the cache does not start at the listed coordinates, it MUST be a mystery.
OK, so for the caches that list parking coordinates as their published listing, those MUST be mysteries. I’ve spotted a few those that have been called Multi’s.
The one I linked to earlier in this thread is an example. The published coordinates are for parking only. Not saying which which reviewer approved it, though. 😉 😀
I didn’t catch the fact that the posted coordinates were dummy coordinates. It’s probably easiest for the owner to simply update the posted coordinates to WP1 and list parking coordinates in the additional waypoint list. The alternative is to republish (why bother) or to request a cache type change, and my experience has been it’s difficult to get the cache type changed after a cache is already published. (“Messes up people’s stats.”)
The confusion this thread has generated shows it’s one of those gray areas. The good news is that as long as the stages are virtual ones, it won’t interfere with other cache placements. Enjoy the hunt and don’t sweat the details.
As for the obvious waypoint….we did this one too, and it was created by a bunch of kids in a summer school class. I’m glad to see kids involved in setting up geocaches, even if it was an obvious waypoint.
I was laughing at myself more than anything.
I looked at it ahead of time, and said to myself, “I probably dont need to actually go to this waypoint”. Next thing I know, I’m walking towards the waypoint.
You know those moments where you smack your forehead with the palm of your hand? Or one of those Homer Simpson “Doh!” moments? It was one of those..
It was funny.
Those moments are most of our life, LOL. We did the same thing…..you just never know if there might be a different octagonal sign out there.
Perhaps a sign that looks like an octagon from a distance, but as you get closer it is 3-dimensional. Hmmm…..that gives me an idea! 🙄
