Does anyone know the the complete kill buttons to completely erase everything you have put into the GPS. to bring it back to the original like when you first turn it on from the store. I would like to do this to my GPS because i found a Virus on my computer and I wonder if it got into my GPS when i was transfering data.
02/09/2009 at 2:31 pm #1901898Sorry i forgot to tell you what model it is a garmin 60cs. I want to kill it so it is fresh nothing on it except for what it came with. and try to start over and see if this works.
02/09/2009 at 3:40 pm #1901899I googled this up. Have no idea if it is correct information or good information. Hopefully someone who has actually done this can confirm this- I would not attempt to reset mine with this information alone.
From:http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/secret.htm
GPS 60/60CS
Hold enter while powering up to enter test mode. Hold enter and page while powering up to master reset the unit. The 76C and 76CS should use the same key strokes as they use the same firmware.
02/09/2009 at 5:55 pm #1901900I can confirm that what OPS posted (holding page and enter while powering up) is correct for a reset. After doing this, it will ask if you want to clear all data… select yes.
As far as a virus infecting or doing anything strange to your GPS, you really have nothing to worry about. Though I have heard about a virus for Magellan units… apparently it is highly contagious, as you can get it simply by pressing the power button to turn the on. It causes extreme slowness, horrible accuracy, and makes all the menus impossible to figure out. (Just kidding Magellan users. ;))
02/09/2009 at 9:29 pm #1901901very funny Jeremy thats a good one. i will try that and see if it fixes my problem i just dont have the $125.00 to send in with my unit to get it looked at be garmin. so i want to try everything first.
02/09/2009 at 10:00 pm #1901902T.O. if something is going wrong on your 60, check your SD card as well, loose ones have caused problems before.
02/09/2009 at 10:03 pm #1901903i dont have an SD card this model doesnot have one or at least i dont think it does never found it lol

60CS… sorry, was thinking 60CX, if you did have one it would be under your batteries.
02/10/2009 at 6:00 am #1901906No problem thanks for the help anyways. yea there is no SD card by my battery’s. i did the complete reboot seems to work a little better will see tomorrow.
02/12/2009 at 12:51 am #1901907ok by now I think everyone knows that I have been having problems with my Garmin 60cs. quick run down if people don’t know what would happen is i would be out on a clear day and try to look for a cache and turn on my GPS and 45 Min’s later I would get a signal then if I move a foot I would loose it and it would start all over again. Or I would have a signal walk under a tree with no leaves and gone no signal. even when I did have a signal the bars would be really low almost to the bottom never really strong signal.
My question is ever since I did the complete kill it has been working great. locks on to satellites and even get WAAS while never losing a thing. Now my question is if I go back into my memory case (my brain) I remember it always worked really good after I did that. And then I get excited and DL caches from CG.com And that’s when it gets all weird and I loose satellites reception or it takes forever to get a signal, if I even get one at all even on a clear day. Could it really be this simple and that is my whole problem. something gets jazzed up when I transfer files from GC to my GPS. If that is the case how do other people down load caches does everyone do GSACK. please let me know because if I don ‘t have to send it in that would be AWESOME.
I would really appreciate what others might have to say or have any helpful hints for me. because I would like to get back out there and do some caching to loose some weight. plus I am Laid off right now from work so I don’t have anything better to do. if anyone would like to help me loose some weight or go out and do some caching please PM me and we can talk. we can kinda make this an experiment how many caches does it take to loose weight. LOL
02/12/2009 at 3:00 am #1901908I’ve never had a lot of luck with the direct downloads. It seems to work ok with simple caches, but parking coordinates and the like seem to throw my GPS for a loop. The trick is that both the GPS firmware and the download program have to be up to date and compatible with one another, which is not always the case, especially with out-of-production GPSs. I would recommend that you just stick with GSAK, Mapsource, or EasyGPS to do cache downloads (or put them in manually.) They all work well, and you eliminate the possible issue of getting your unit hosed up.
02/12/2009 at 3:04 am #1901909thanks Team Deejay. Now the question is can anyone show me how to use GSAK lol i have been trying to set up a quire and cant do it.
02/12/2009 at 3:36 pm #1901910You get your query from Geocaching.com, not from GSAK. Set up a pocket query on the site. The site will email it to you. Save the zip file they send you somewhere that you can find it. Run GSAK and File|load the file. Done. (Yes, it is that easy. The harder part is setting up the pocket query to do what you want.)
