I have had an idea for a cache but I have been procrastinating on putting it together because I have been unsure of a few things. One of which is that I am unsure about whether or not I can mention specific names or websites in the cache description. To solve for the coordinates cachers would have to watch a short movie. I’ve seen plenty of caches where characters were named so I think that should be ok, right? And this video is currently on hulu, YouTube and Netflix for free. Can I link to these on the cache page? Or mention them? Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks!

This is usually ok, as long as it doesn’t come across as promotional.

You may want to avoid the ‘link’ route, as they inevitably break – you want your cache to stand on its own for years, right? A description of the video you want finders to watch, along with guidance on how to find it, should be sufficient and more durable. If it adds a tad to the difficulty, kick up the D-rating a notch. Just a thought. 🙂

      Thank you both. 🙂

I think you should scrap the whole idea and hide an ammo box in the woods with a hint, but that’s just me.

Haven’t done that one yet, but you can never have too many ammo cans, just too many puzzles.

As much as I hate puzzles, I’d have to say that “National Treasure” would have been a pretty boring movie if Nicolas Cage has the GPS coordinates to the Trinity Church with a clue for which crypt to bash in.

But Benjamin Gates is a genius. I’m not. 😉

Not an ammo box final, but one that will make you laugh (most likely). It’s even relatively close to your home turf.

Hey that’s right! Nothing tricky here, I assure you Mr. G. And this hardly counts as a puzzle. 🙄

OK Mr. G, I took your advice and hid a nice ammo can in the woods today. Just waiting for it to be published now.
