I’m hoping someone could suggest some good caches and food near were I am going to be staying next week. I will at 2308 W Wisconsin Ave. at the Ambassador Hotel, if anyone has any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated.
There is a map of where this actually is on this page. I am not familiar with the Milwaukee area at all.

First off you are staying in a little bit of a rough area. Make sure you keep your car doors locked and your gps out of sight. There have been a lot of gps units stolen out of cars here recently. I believe there is a Mcdonalds across from the hotel. Best places for food downtown would include, Buck Bradleys on 3rd and state st, Butches Steak House on 7 and Michigan, The Milwaukee Public Market on Water and St. Paul. The one place you must go is The Safe House. There is a cache there inside the bar. Other caches would include anything on the lakefront such as Bonita vista el mar.

YEP. That is a can’t miss location / cache.
I will deffinatly hit the safe house, I think my food allowance per day is like 75$ in the Milwaukee area. I like a good steak or bbq place, so I will check out Butches Steak House. Thanks for the quick responses!

You might want to try Mo’s Steakhouse also, but that might be your entire days food allowance.If you were a fan of “Happy Days” make sure to find “Letters to the Fonz”.
If you are up for German, Maders is an excellent choice. I want to say a block or two north of State Street on 3rd(?) Street.

Ditto about the hotel location — it’s OK, but you are on the western fringe of the Marquette area.
For good cheap eats nearby (around the corner from Marquette campus):
Sobelman’s, 1900 W. St. Paul Ave — great burgers
Real Chili, 1625 W. Wells — good chili
Miss Katie’s Diner, 1900 W Clybourn St — classic dinerFurther afoot:
Noodle House, 3433 West National Avenue (take the 27th St Bridge south to National Ave., go right for 1/2 mile) — Vietnamese joint
Saz’s State House, 5539 West State Street (if visiting Miller Brewery, keep heading west for 1-1/2 miles) — great ribs
Balistreri’s, 812 N 68th St (go 2 miles west on Wisconsin Ave, hang a right at 68th St) — excellent pizza place (worth the wait).
Money is no object:
Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro. Make reservations. Dress nice. Take a cab (Don’t trouble yourself with directions).
Coffee: Any place that says “Alterra” has unbelievably good coffee and has decent breakfast and lunch fare (free wi fi).
Finally, if you find yourself at the casino (Potowattami Bingo and Casino) I hear that they in fact have a few of the best restaurants in the city, especially Dreamdance (another make-reservations, dress-nice kind of place).
Ditto on Potowatomi Casino. I’m not much of a gambler, but their sports bar has excellent food in addition to a world class restaurant (Dreamdance from above). Also you might what to check out the Harley Museum, I believe there is a eatery in there as well, if not it is very close by.
I’m going to “me too” on the hotel. The hotel itself is of the “boutique” variety, built/decorated on an Art Deco theme. Unfortunately, the neighborhood is modern American slum. Be careful! You really might want to switch to a downtown hotel. I suspect the price will be lower and you will enjoy your stay without having to worry so much about personal safety. If you haven’t spent a significant portion of your life in a major city, I would say that goes double.
I can’t say I am really a fan of any of the restaurants mentioned. I think Butch’s is ok. Lake Park Bistro is very good but more of a romantic spot and very expensive. I do like Sobelman’s for burgers, but sometimes it can be nearly impossible to get in, due to the crowds. I figure since you are staying in a hipster spot like the Ambassador, you might like to try something less “touristy”. Here are some of our current favorites:
Triskele’s Restaurant
This place we have just tried once, and we will definitely be going back. They are a “modern american” place set in an old corner tavern. If you like mussels, they have the best ones in town (second only to some I had in Belgium), simmered in a poblano cream sauce. The short ribs braised in porter were also exceptional.Jackson Grill
This is an old time steakhouse built in an old corner tavern. The owner/chef was raised in the restaurant business, and you will find this place to have the best steaks in town, bar none, with a price around 60% of what you would pay at Mo’s or the other places. The atmosphere is similar to a supper club, but with better food. The mac and cheese side dish is quite possibly the best you will find anywhere. Super highly recommended.La Canoa (no website!)

Milwaukee
This is the place to go for Mexican style seafood in Milwaukee. Extremely fresh fish and shellfish cooked in tradtional style. I would recommend the red snapper grilled in garlic butter (Huachinango al Mojo de Ajo). This place is very busy, and the service can be a bit crazy, especially if you don’t speak any spanish, but the food is good enough to be worth the extra effort. You don’t need reservations here, but sometimes they do get backed up (usually due to server confusion!) Enjoy the chaos and have another cocktail.Honeypie Cafe
This is another bar conversion (but not on the corner!) serving what is best described as comfort food. Everything is made there (even the pickles). Everything is made fresh and everything tastes like they are trying to kill you with flavor and richness. (These guys have a love affair with bacon!) The best thing, though, is the dessert, especially the fruit pies. Writing this is making me hungry.That is probably enough to keep you busy, but drop me a note if you want more or something specific. I can give you coordinates if your GPS doesn’t do street addresses.
