Several members of the WGA have brought a idea or a request to your attention. What would you do as a board member to help these members see their idea thru to completion. What would do if you agree What would if.you do not agree with the idea or request. But these members have asked for some direction to have success with their idea or request.

First I would “absorb” the request. Is it a logical idea, something to consider?
I would then present the idea to the BOD for input on the request, crediting the members that initiated the idea. I would also find out from the original members that shared their idea if they would want to spearhead the request, if action is needed. If it can enhance the game, and is good for the membership as a whole, GREAT!

This is the ideal for your question. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always go as planned!

If I disagreed on it, I would still present it to the BOD. It is a voting body that represents the membership and should be governed as such.

As the Wga grows . Members have expressed interest in dividing the state into areas or divisions for the purpose of holding events and to better service service the wishes of the members. As a member of the WGA board. How would you proceed to make this happen.

Actually, I’ve noticed members trying to “localize” their specific geographic areas into sub-associations or independent caching associations. Nothing wrong with that, unless there is a new set of guidelines/rules that run independently from the Groundspeak norms.
By districting the state, each area will have representation on the State BODs, while working independently in their own areas. If the state were divided into, say, 4 districts, there could be 2 reps from each district, plus 2 at-large reps, with the president voting in case of a tie from abstention/absence of a rep. Various committees can be formed in each district, as well as State committees, for various Events and projects, as deemed necessary by the BOD.

I’m sure there are many other ideas and details to iron out, and no one is saying it should happen. But it should be discussed.

I wouldn’t. Firstly, we are the WISCONSIN Geocaching Association. We already do the best we can at service the wishes of the members.

As far as events go, the WGA has spent thousands of dollars sponsoring regional events in the past couple of years. Since we simply do not have the manpower to plan, coordinate and host all of these events, the bulk of the planning and organizing was done by local cachers… WGA members… in all parts of the state and without dividing and partitioning the WGA and its resources.

We have, however, divided the state into “quadrants” for the purpose of planning where to host our annual Campout and Picnic events. While there has been some disagreement about where the lines should be drawn, we have done our best to allow as many Wisconsin geocachers as possible to attend our events.

I have no problem with the formation of local geocaching groups. I can’t say for certain, but I’m pretty sure the WGA would support them in any way possible. To my knowlege, we’ve never been asked.

Any ideas that are presented to me by the general membership I will bring up to the rest of the board for discussion. That being said the ground work for most projects or ideas will need to be carried out by the general membership. The BOD can certainly provide guidance, and perhaps other resources.
