Great questions Barry, a great way for all of us to learn a little more about each other, whether we are elected or not.

    1. What got you into caching and how long have you been doing it?

Blame it on Timberline Echoes. We found our first geocache June 24, 2006.

    2. What area of the state are you from?

Coulee Country, aka southwestern Wisconsin, 12 miles from the Mississippi River

    3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties

We’ve completed the Wisconsin DeLorme and the Badger State Counties Challenge. We have favorite areas we’ve cached often well beyond our own, but we’ve covered the state with smileys pretty well. We keep cleaning out our nearest 50 miles, so we usually have to travel 90 minutes or more for any serious caching these days! The southeastern corner is the one where we’ve cached the least.

    4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?

We went to Midwest Geobash in Indiana last summer, and also attended a great event in Marquette Michigan. We’ve traveled 3-4 hours within the state to attend a few events. Events are fun!

    5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc.

I’m signed on to the Minnesota Geocachers Association (my home state) and peek at the Iowa site from time to time. Living where we do, it’s very easy to spend an afternoon caching all three states.

    1. What got you into caching and how long have you been doing it?

my first experience geocaching was in preparation for an adventure race that the other organization I am a BOD member on was preparing. Central Wisconsin Adventures puts on an annual FARSC (Frontier Adventure Race – Spring Challenge) which is open to junior high and high school co-ed teams in an attempt to help build teamwork and expose the kids to other outdoor activities that are not necessarily the norm for today’s youth. The physical challenges they tend to face include biking, trekking, paddling, as well as additional challenges such as rock climbing and treversing. We also try to throw in a mental challenge or two as well.
While looking for events, one of the other directors mentioned geocaching and after a quick purchase of a gps, I went out and gave it a try. A couple caches later, and I was hooked. That was in March of 2006 but it wasn’t until I got Sagasu involved in geocaching that it became more than a weekend hobby.

    2. What area of the state are you from?

    Central Wisconsin (Waushara County)

    3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties

With my and my wife’s work schedule, and a 10 yr old and a 2 yr old, the distance I am able to chase for caches tends to be pretty nearby the home area for the impromptu cach runs but the distance can increase with proper planning. I would have to check my DeLorme list to see the number of counties I have cached in but the majority run east/west from Waushara and south toward Milwaukee. Once daylight takes up the majority of the days again, the range will increase too.

    4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?

I am willing to travel wherever necessary to participate in the WGA campout and Picnic. The trip to Mountain for the Wildcat event was alot of fun and I look forward to reaching out and visiting the Northwoods and the Southwest corner.

    5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc.

Being located in the central part of the state, I am a WGA member only.

Disclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.

    1. What got you into caching and how long have you been doing it?

In August of 2004, I saw a short segment on TV about a new activity (geocaching) for teens and thought it sounded like fun; using technology, going to interesting places, using your brain and finding hidden treasure. A few weeks later, Lego Lover, who had only done a few caches herself, announced she was going geocaching and I invited myself along. Temperature was around 104 and off we went to do a multi. Met up with Trudy and the Beast while at one of the waypoints. I thought that it was a GR8 activity, with GR8 people involved. I was hooked! 😀

    2. What area of the state are you from?

I live in the Southeastern corner of the state, in the Northwest corner of Milwaukee. I also have a one room schoolhouse in the Southwestern corner of the state about 20 miles north of Richland Center.

    3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area??? of 72 counties?

I‘ve never really checked to see how many counties I’ve done (and should probably do that sometime). I have cached as far north as Fremont and Appleton, west to the Mississippi and east to Lake Michigan.

    4. How far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?

I’m willing to go anywhere in the state to attend an event. I have not attended a mega-event (yet) but I have attended events in Illinois and Iowa as well as the events at Wildcat Mountain, in Appleton, Waukesha, Kenosha, West Bend, etc. I love events! 😆

    5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc?

I am also a member of GONIL.

    1. What got you into caching and how long have you been doing it?

Answer: Learned about geocaching while hiking on my neighbor’s property and noticing tracks to a geocache there in May of 2004. Been caching ever since.

    2. What area of the state are you from?

    Answer: Eau Claire.

    3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties

Answer: I have found a cache in all 72 counties, completing the requirements for the Badger State Challenge, a cache that I own. I also was the FTF on the Wisconsin DeLorme Challenge. I currently have finds on 4240 unique Wisconsin geocaches. Given that 76.1% of the caches that I have found have been archived, it can be estimated that I have found 3242, or about 32% of the active caches in Wisconsin.

    4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?

Answer: I travel all the time, spending last weekend caching in the South Kettle Morraine, Kenosha and Racine. I have been to MWGB twice.

    5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc.

Answer: Yes, I am a non-voting member of the Minnesota Geocaching Association, and both last year and this year assisted with their inititive to place a cache in each of Minnesota’s state parks. Last week, I revisited Frontenac State Park to meet with the ranger and select a spot for the next Minnesota State Park Challenge.

    1. What got you into caching and how long have you been doing it?

I started geocaching in late February 2004. Pretty much, I saw green&gold (formerly whitnallgps) having a lot of fun so I bought the same GPSr he had. I found 3 caches before leaving for a conference in Charleston South Carolina the very next day. I introduced it to TamCo on the flight and together we explored Charleston through the eyes of a geocacher.

    2. What area of the state are you from?

    South Eastern – Milwaukee/Waukesha

    3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties

While I do not know the exact number of counties, I have geocached across the state. Once I am caught up with my logs, I could figure it out.

    4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?

I have attended the past 4 GeoWoodstock Events:
    a) 2008 – Sacramento California,
    b) 2007 – Raleigh, North Carolina
    c) 2006 – Dallas, Texas
    d) 2005 – Jacksonville, Florida

    And, only 1 Midwest GeoBash
    a) 2007 – Kendallville, Indiana

Pretty much my only restrictions to attend events are work and if I can afford it.

    5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc.

I am also a member of GONIL.

    1. What got you into caching and how long have you been doing it?

I had been casting around for an activity that the much better half and I could learn together. She was always game to try things that I was active in, but I thought something new that we both had no experience in would be a lot of fun. I bought her a Garmin Geko 301 for Christmas 2004, and we logged our first cache on April 1, 2005. And the next day we did two more, and it has continued to evolve from there.

    2. What area of the state are you from?

The heart of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.

    3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties

All the counties, all the DeLorme pages and we’ve spread out from there.

    4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?

We’ve been to MWGB twice and have attended one event in Minnesota and one event in Michigan. We tend to try to attend as a couple and that has really limited our event opportunities as Marie is frequently on call as part of her job. We particularly enjoy the social aspects of the events we do attend, and will travel plenty for the right event.

    5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc.

From time to time I do check other forums, most especially Minnesota and Iowa. I’ve checked many other states’ forums here and there, especially in connection with trips to cache.

I saw a small article in “Wisconsin Trails” magazine and loved the idea of enhancing my hiking with finding Tupperware int he woods. I have been doing so since 2004

I was from the NorthEastern part, but have been in the SouthEastern part for about 1.5 yrs.

    I think I have dome about 30 counties…might be more though. 🙂

I have gone to Illinois on a whim for a mid week event. I have been to the Midwest GeoBash and went to GeoWoodstock back in 2006. When I travel, I try to get to events the locals might be having. I have over 30 states now also.

I am involved with the Maine GC Assoc as well as one of the Florida Assoc. Otherwise, I am a bit more involved with EarthCaching and keep contact with GeoAware, the EC approver.
