Ok.. I have two Questions..
1. How often does the BOD meet??
2. Is it possible to talk to the all of the BOD at the same time about something (much rather not metion it on the Forums until i talk to someone on the board)
Thanks!
(wasn’t quite sure of where to post this since its questions i’ll post it here)
thanks!09/12/2006 at 3:04 am #1765491We meet in person in Feb/Mar soon after elections, at the Campout in May and at the Picnic in August. We constantly “meet” on the bod forum. We regularly read the forum and to let the others know when we will be out of contact for more than a few days.
I thought there was an email alias to catch all of us with one email, but I couldn’t find mention of it with a quick look on the website. I’ve put in a question on this to the Planner’s Forum, which includes the bod and the webmasters.
09/12/2006 at 3:06 am #1765492Thank you, an email address would be good so i could catch all of you.. and it would be easier on me, just to make sure i don’t forget anything, if i have to type it all up and read it over and over again! 😀
Thank you for your help!
09/12/2006 at 3:28 am #1765493I’ll let you know when I know.
09/12/2006 at 3:40 am #1765494Having never sent an email to the board, I think this is it:
wgabod
wi geocaching com Give it a whirl — we’ll let you know if it doesn’t come through! 😆

wi geocaching com This is the correct address. Sending something to this alias will cause an email to be sent to all Board members.
This was supposed to be a semi-private method for the Board members to communicate in the event that private Board forum on the WGA website was inaccessible (because of a server crash, nuclear war, biblical flood, etc.). But now that the cat is out of the bag, I guess it is OK to use this email alias to contact the entire Board.
The alternative to doing this would be to send your idea to a single Board member, and they would relay it to the entire Board. As I mentioned in the General forum, this method has worked well in the past.
And sometimes it is best to publicly address the Board (by posting something in the public WGA forums). Stirring up a hornet’s nest sometimes can cause the Board to jump into action… in some cases without this public prodding they’d be inclined to sit on their hands.

You must have been a fun child to parent. 😀
Speaking as a parent, sometimes stirring a hornets nest causes people to retreat. It is often better to gently stir a suggestion than to boil it over and burn it up on the fire. If my child is purposely pulling my trigger I’m far less inclined to attend to their desires than if they try to cooperate.
I’ll admit that with the rest of life’s distractions it is easy to push aside the things we talk about doing for the WGA but don’t quite get around to. For me (speaking only for me, not the entire bod) gentle public prodding reminds me of what is of concern and important to the membership. Making it a controversy tends to make *me* (not the entire bod) want to ignore it until it settles down.
Back to the subject, as Jeremy stated, please send us your concern/issue. If there is a bod that you know personally, you could send your email to that person and perhaps speak more comfortably. They could then paraphrase and pass on your concern.

09/12/2006 at 1:30 pm #1765498That *was* a private email address to facilitate board business.

WOW! Seems it’s not the case any longer. I’m curious as to the reason that all BOD members weren’t aware that this was a “private” address…could it be another case of “lack of communication?”

Someone must have missed that in their “New BoD Member Handbook” 🙄 No big deal, not like its a security breach or anything!
09/14/2006 at 4:38 am #1765503Okay, at the risk of stirring any further…oh heck, I don’t care if I stir! Here goes…
First of all, I find it very hard to believe that there ACTUALLY IS a “New BoD Member Handbook,” and if there were, perhaps there should have been a meeting to ensure that all members received, read, and understood each page of it!
For goodness sakes, it’s a silly email address we’re talking about here! Someone called for help, someone from the BOD replied, and someone else from the BOD posted a note telling her she was wrong for offering the assistance. “That *was* a private email address…” Give me a break! How is that any different than anything that goes on in any other forum thread? The difference is that one of our fearless leaders said it, so the rest of us have to just sit back and take it. Well, not so much! I think it stinks! I personally think there should be a place where we can all reach the entire BOD “behind closed doors” if we have something to say to them as a whole. Not saying that anthing bad would happen, but why should we expect one BOD member to relay a note to the rest. Isn’t it said over and over again that things are lost in translation? Cut and paste, forward, paraphrase, whatever…why can’t a person just send the note to all BOD members at once? Now that the secret is out, why not just add another “private” address and be done with it?! I’m glad that greyhounder has taken on such an active role in the WGA…not just the BOD, but the WGA as a whole! I have seen more involvement from her than I have from most BOD members. This is a woman who holds a full-time job, is a volunteer BOD member, plans events, travels to events, and…unlike many others…is actually out there on the trails! ON A REGULAR BASIS!!! She’s representing me very well! Thanks Bec for not making me feel I wasted my vote!

Making it a controversy tends to make *me* (not the entire bod) want to ignore it until it settles down.”I’ve tried on many occasions to take this route, it rarely seemed to matter. We all know that this, and former BOD’s do things in their own time. Often taking much longer to move on some things than many of the general body feel necessary. Statements like these make me understand a bit more of why “their own time” is so slow (…sometimes!). Ignoring things until they settle down is…(censored)

One BOD member reads something, they take from it what they deem important and relay that to the rest of the BOD. They paraphrase…was something lost in the translation? Was something taken out of context in the paraphrase? Was there a point that was missed by that one person, that someone else may have seen? Was the original concern actually passed on? Why paraphrase? Why not just let everyone see the original note and let everyone reply?
09/14/2006 at 11:35 pm #1765504Your WGA Board is not untouchable. All our contact info is there. There was never anything stopping someone from sending any email and cc:’ing the entire board. Again… No. Big. Deal. Feel free to use it if you’d like!
