One of the initiatives introduced at the Feb 2006 BOD meeting was an updated WGA Logo. What are your feelings on changing the logo?
01/17/2007 at 3:41 am #1768471I think the present Logo is good. It is widely recogonized at this point. If changes could be made to make it better, I think it is very important to stay with the Theme of the Orginazation, and to not make the Logo look to “Busy”

The current logo is fine, and I dont see a need to change the logo. However, if someone has a strong desire to change it to something more slick, and has artwork they want to propose, I would be open minded about changing it.

01/17/2007 at 6:24 am #1768473I agree with Zuma on this. This doesn’t seem like a priority to me, but we can always change it if someone designs something great. I would hate to change it just for the change, however.
01/17/2007 at 12:34 pm #1768474I would have to ask who came up with the present logo and why? What do the majority of WGA members think of the present vs new logo?
01/17/2007 at 2:04 pm #1768475I personally like the picture part of the logo. I think the text part could use some refreshing though.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a nice short name like “Apple” or “Dell”. We’ve got the 32-character “Wisconsin Geocaching Association” so that makes it a little tough to do something stylized, but still legible enough to put on merchandise.
Rather than the BOD just making a decision, I’d like to see a poll of the membership:
A – Keep the current logo
B – Mostly keep the current logo, but “freshen it up” a bit
C – Replace the logo completely with an updated designI’d bet that over 80% of the total would be split between A and B.

The current logo was developed with the input/direction of the “founding fathers” back when (Fall 2001) we realized we were going to be launching a website and had no logo for our group. I came up with a couple options and this is the one that was chosen. At that time we didn’t have forums or a website, so there was no way to poll the membership (well there were no members to poll either ;)).
While the Board would have the power to change the logo on their own, I think getting some input from the membership would be prudent. After all, the logo represents the entire organization so we want the majority of the membership to agree with any changes to this important part of our identity.
01/17/2007 at 5:46 pm #1768477The current logo is nice, but it is rather 2D or should I say Flat looking. I would like to see something more up to date, fun, different. I am not asking to have anything spinning or animated in any otter way (It makes me dizzy… ok…. more dizzy lol)
The WGA has come a long way and I think we had already posted a poll about the logo and didn’t get much input. I feel we should go for a change with this idea:
1. Have any and all members of the WGA submit Logo ideas.
2. Depending on the number of submittals, have a first round elimination, votes being submitted by WGA members (not just the BOD).
3. Have the final 3, 4 or whatever #, be placed up for final voting but any and all WGA members, (Not just the BOD).
Possible Issues and Resolutiions to consider:
I. Members don’t know how to get their logo on the site for voting.
R. Easy enough… just ask for help from our local computer Guru’s.I. Are there too few members voting on the site for the logos?
R. Present the Logos at the first WGA event and have voting at the event.I. Participation of logo submittal is low.
R. Possible offer a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prize, to encourage participation.I. “I have an idea, but can’t draw and I am not good on the computer”
R. Just ask in the forum for help… I am sure there are many of us that can help.”01/17/2007 at 5:53 pm #1768478I like our current logo, and I like thelogo that Cheesehead Dave submitted this past fall.
I wouldn’t mind exploring new options. I’d bet we have people with some nice logo ideas, but don’t have the technical ability to get it in a digital format.

Its clean, and professional.

I am torn. The logo has served the WGA so well over the years, but like all things has grown out of date. Much like the old website, I believe we need to make a serious effort to have a professional looking logo developed that will take us into the next several years.
01/26/2007 at 7:23 pm #1768481I would have to go with ZUMA on this one. I don’t see anything wrong with the old (or current) one. But if somone wanted to take an Inits. I would be glad to see it and make a desision at that time…..
01/28/2007 at 5:42 am #1768482The question regarding the WGA logo, to me, comes down to, do we want to keep things the same or are we looking to make changes.
The current logo has served us well but I support a new logo to represent changes within WGA.

01/29/2007 at 3:55 pm #1768483I’m all for looking at logo alternatives. Just because we look doesn’t mean we change. but I seem to remember some comments about others that weren’t members wondering why we have “a shoebox and a PDA” as our logo.
