With the influx of so many p and g’s the last several years, caches that have a lot of favorite points and have that COM designation definitely catch my eye. I’ll go out of my way to search for those!

Thumbs up!
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

08/06/2016 at 12:20 pm #2051123Out of curiosity, how many of you all think Cache of the Month is dead?
I think the people that win it love it.
Does it hurt to keep it? IDK.
If it goes away here’s what we have:
Dead Recent Logs
Dead COTMWhat will replace it?
I just nominated caches in all five zones. I encourage you all to do the same! Of course, that means you have to have found great caches in all five zones…
08/06/2016 at 7:05 pm #2051129Just nominated 1605 OAHT Genesee Lakes. Never have come across a cache such as that.

08/07/2016 at 9:39 pm #2051143COTM is easy enough to keep going as it nearly runs itself other than setting up the polls, making notifications and sending the banners to the winners.
with the favorite points, it is easy to see what caches people find to be good/great caches in the populated areas but there really isn’t any other way other than the COTM for the out of the way super caches that take a bit of physical/mental challenge that may only be found a few times a year to be recognized. Even if there is only one vote for a cache in a zone, that doesn’t mean that the cache may not be worthy of COTM. Quite the contrary, as it may only get the recognition it deserves after it ranks in the COTM polls and people take notice.

Yep.
08/08/2016 at 9:03 am #2051149Just nominated 1605 OAHT Genesee Lakes. Never have come across a cache such as that.
Unfortunately it can’t win COTM yet. “A cache must have been published more than 90 days prior to being nominated for COTM.”
That gives more potential finders a chance to find it so they can vote for it too.

Bummer-I am going to forget come October. I will have to mark it on a calendar somewhere.

08/08/2016 at 12:26 pm #2051154As someone who recently started caching in Feb 2016, I peruse the COTM list to look for interesting caches. Many of them have not been out long enough or are not gadget caches to gather enough favorite points to place high on the favorite points list like a Dr Dolittle cache does.
I noticed that Iowa IGO has a cache of the year award too – now that would be a toughie to win.
08/09/2016 at 5:53 am #2051162Brewce, thanks for sharing this. Good to hear that it is still usable as often we hear only the less than positive remarks on keeping it going. Greta point I had never considered with Fav Points. Just because it doesn’t gather tons o’ points doesn’t make it any less special.

thanks for that notice: I have removed this cache from the poll. It may be nominated again when it gets 90 days (or will be 90 days by the end of a month)

08/18/2016 at 6:55 pm #2051253Anyone ever have those days where the points don’t count and the prizes don’t matter? Yeah-I stole that from Drew Carey.

08/29/2016 at 7:30 pm #2051375So we started a 6 part multi a week or so ago. Got to WP5 and BAM! no new WP to be found (or we were really off our game). So we contacted the CO and they swore WP5 was there all good to go and even checked on it and gave us the green light along with the coords. (Most awesome COs BTW!) Headed back between chores yesterday and quickly found WP5 with given coords from CO-no issues, all good. We decided to go and recheck WP4 thinking we must have done something waaaay wrong however, the coords we had were correct. Snapped some pics and sent back to the CO. Today got an email from the CO saying we found the old missing cache at that WP. This was not the first time this has happened to us. We are thinking now that if anyone has a missing cache we could volunteer to find it . . . just maybe.

09/06/2016 at 6:09 am #2051461Thank goodness for board games on days like today. Or, figuring out how to use my phone as a personal WiFi HotSpot . . .
