I’m WAY late to the post party on this one, but I had to archive a fun little night cache I placed not too long ago here because someone stole it twice! Both ammo cans gone. It wasnt like someone randomly came across them either. Kinda put a sour taste in my mouth. Grrrrrr.

After reading this I went out and checked my only ammo can hide and yep its missing in Pound. Checked some other caches and there were three more gone. I know that they can go missing, but four with in a 5 mile area not likely. I think Pound got hit.

Here’s an interesting approach to having a ‘big can’ (frickin’ big, actually) for a container, that seems to be surviving well. It’s in the guy’s front yard, strapped to a tree. A shocker to come upon, that’s for sure.

I went through our cache listings and modified the container description anywhere it had been identified as an ammo can. Hopefully they are generic enough that nobody will target them.

Just had one that I suspected was taken, found miles from GZ at another cache site up the bike trail. Another cacher found it and thought it was one of the Barn Quilt caches, until he opened it and found papers about the other cache. He contacted me and told me he hid it nearby.

Do not know why it was grabbed and dumped or if they even knew that they left it at a cache site.

mushroom420 in Beloit just had two ammo cans go missing this week. I know he put a lot of effort into dressing them up, and I hated to see them go missing.

Only ammo can I have out has a difficulty 6 puzzle attached to it 8)

Here is one that I just ran across this last w/e. It is the final to puzzle where you must locate one of 4 keys. Checkout the picture the CO posted on 8/26/12.
The cache is GC3FCKM. Even thought this is not in WI, it shows the extent that muggles will go to to ruin a cache.

I keep checking back to this post every time someone new posts. This concerns me and makes me nervous. I use ammo cans whenever I can. Although my “can” caches spend more time on the lonely cache list then being found due to their remoteness, I worry. I think regardless, I’ll continue to use them though. I know how much I enjoy finding a big old ammo can at the end of the search.

I do too enjoy an old ‘rusty’ can at the end of the trail. I just happen to spot this one when I was at a cache and found a key.

Then there are some old ammo can caches that are still around. The Beverly in Illinois is not the original can, but just keeps on going over the years. Over 11 years now!!

What that CO needs to do is post fake coords and put the actual coords on the TB keychain similar to what Peaches has done with the Lockbox cache in Green Bay.

Magnolia Bluff, the oldest active geocache in Rock County, has just gone missing again after the listing was adopted and the original container was replaced about a year ago. Some contents were strewn about, and the container is gone. Unfortunately, the cache is clearly listed in the description and some logs as being a .30 caliber ammo can.

This thread is bumming me out. 🙁
