I have owned 2 Ifinders, basic with street mapping.
Have had them since 2004.I like to geocache, hunt, fish and hike.
Does color matter?
I’m not sure what to look for now.I am not going to spend a ton.
Any ideas???
05/05/2009 at 9:11 pm #1907305The yellow etrex by Garmin served me well for about 7 years. You can buy them brand new for $99. I up graded to a Garmin Map60Cx a year and a half ago and have been very happy with it. My wife found it online for around $250 just after Thanksgiving.

How do you like the garmin 60cx? Did it come with everything you needed?
Like street maps?05/05/2009 at 9:44 pm #1907307I have a Garmin 60CSx that work great. Up graded from the Blue Etrex(may it rest in pieces) I just bought City Navigator and love it.

I would say the same thing about my Oregon 300 that I’ve had since last August. The two big pluses: road maps (including routing). and having access to the cache description, logs and hints (don’t need a separate device for paperless). One negative: display not as readable in the sun as the 60C series.

Pretty much ditto here.
Have the Garmin GPSMAP 60 Cx variant.Do not miss my blue eTrex as is was awful under the tree canopy for doing the last 40 – 50 feet for GZ. Especially, when you are bushwhacking and don’t have the ability to move about as well.
We use the Garmin 60Cx for fishing, travel, caching and all so we are happy with it. And, I am glad not to have to use the eTrex anymore.
Options to consider:

I got a 60csx and I love it. Geocaching, hiking, biking, road trips, boat trips.
Yes, you need to purchase the auto-routing maps separately.
05/06/2009 at 10:54 pm #1907312Does the Colorado and the Oregon come with the street mapping?
What would you suggest for maps with the 60cx?

I tink they do, but I’m not sure. For routing, you need City Navigator for the 60. The Topos are nice, but I’m not sure if they are needed if you live and cache in city setting. I have both and jusy found out how to switch from one to the other. I believe that Gander Mnt or somewhere like that was sell a pakage deal with a unit and the old version of the Topo program.

Like the 60 series, the autorouting needs street maps, that you have to buy seperately with the Colorado and Oregon.
I know that your original post said you did not want to spend lot of money, but I would still suggest the Oregon or Colorado. In the long run, it might save ya money cuz ya wont need a PDA at all, ever.
I have a Colorado, and love it. However, if I could afford a do over, I would go for the Oregon, which is quite similiar, but has more functionality for about a 100 bucks more.
