Okay, so I’m reading the stuff on the GSAK page. Is this the thing we want to get so we can go paperless?
Palm T 1X handheld?
Best Buy has a kind of decent deal on these right now. Wish we could do the paperless event Auntie Nae is hosting, but that’s kind of a ways for us to travel.
Thanks for help from the technologically impaired (we’re still hand entering our coords, for crying out loud!)
10/14/2007 at 5:51 pm #1880202Next Saturday afternoon, in Glendale or Greenfeld or Glasgow or whichever one of those Milwaukee suburbs is having the Paperless class.
10/14/2007 at 6:18 pm #1880203marc, we saw that. It looks really good, and we haven’t completely ruled that event out. Heck, we could probably snag a couple more pages on the way! But…..is that the toy we need? LOL
10/14/2007 at 7:57 pm #1880204We just went paperless with a Palm Z22. We bought it off of ebay for alot less that we could have found it elsewhere. I don’t know much about the PDA that you are talking about. There are a few threads on the GC forums. I will look for it and post if I find it.
10/14/2007 at 9:18 pm #1880205I have a Palm Z22 that is in Like New condition. I bought it one time when Sprint had my Treo700, and I programmed and used it once. Never took it outside even.. I would give you guys a good deal on it, with all the software, two extra stylus’s and a silicone case…
Let me know if you are interested, and we can talk price.

10/15/2007 at 10:31 am #1880207Don’t suppose I should ask which state?
Sheila will be navigating, so I think I’ll be there…….
10/15/2007 at 4:50 pm #1880208I understand the parks in Greenfield, Indiana are pretty nice…
10/15/2007 at 4:56 pm #1880209Yeah, there is a Greenfield in 48 states .. the only states without are Hawaii and Alaska ..
so, not only do folks confuse us for the Milwaukee County Greenfield Park
they also confuse us with the Greenfield in Indiana ..
It really does not help when the Directory assistance folks give out our number for Greenfield Park, Cool Waters, etc
10/15/2007 at 9:20 pm #1880210You guys are still doing the five fingers data entry method for entering coordinates? I’ll bring my Palm TX and my laptop with me on the 27th and give you guys a quick overview of what I know about going paperless. 😀
10/15/2007 at 11:45 pm #1880211Brett:
Are you coming to Milwaukee for the Event this weekend???
Justin
10/16/2007 at 12:11 am #1880212Hey Justin:
Thanks for the 411 man. I didn’t realize that there was one going on there this weekend. I was going to Iowa because there was nothing else going on. I’ll see you in Waukesha Saturday!
Give me a banana please! 😀
10/16/2007 at 3:50 pm #1880213Well, after a very frustrating morning trying to launch the MapSend program we bought last JULY….I got it on our computer. We’d tried many times before but they kept having “shopping cart issues.” Now the stupid program doesn’t “believe” that the serial number I entered is correct, nor will my computer recognize the “unknown device” when I try and let the computer detect all this stuff direct from the GPS.
I may save ourselves the money and keep going old school. We could put the money toward that Ireland trip I want to take instead! I think we’d have blissfully gone caching along without concern if we hadn’t heard about all these “toys.”
Is there an emoticon for a face that’s fuming and ready to explode? 🙄
10/16/2007 at 7:05 pm #1880214While I agree that a lot of this stuff is unnecessary, it does make geocaching more fun and less laborious (unless you are Zuma and enjoy plotting caching trips on a par with the Lewis and Clark expedition….Oh wait, he already did that one…) On the other hand, MAPS on your GPS are really not a luxury for a serious geocacher. I remember spending time caching with my little yellow etrex (no maps at all) and a Delorme Atlas, and wandering around lost in Dane County until I finally ran into highway 12. Having a map would have saved me from that.
If Magellan will not make good on the program they have sent you, demand your money back. You can buy Mapsend products from third party vendors which would at least pretend to try to help you with your problem. You might even insist on a refund for your GPS, since you can’t use it the way it is intended due to their security systems. You are now experiencing the pinnacle of Magellan Customer Service. Expect it to get worse from here.
10/16/2007 at 7:33 pm #1880215We actually did buy the product from a third party vendor, who were not able to help us. While we like our Magellan, we’ve pretty much decided when it conks out, we’ll go with Garmin. I’ve actually got the little yellow Garmin for my back up.
And I agree. We have put on too many miles and burned too much gas in areas we didn’t know very well, which was the reason we wanted this program in the first place. I’m going to walk away for a little while and have at it again later today. Sigh.
