How much Starry stuff did you have today?

Only 1 large cup and I had great company (i.e. BakRdz)
02/15/2012 at 9:10 pm #1956613Not sure if this is an option, but when I want to do some mapping of cache locations I’ll do it using Google Earth. Seems to work well enough for my needs though I’m not using it as my primary caching tool either.
02/15/2012 at 9:23 pm #1956614I miss the old maps too. Enough said….
CHANGE? Do I have to?
The views expressed here are that of myself only and do not necessarily represent that of the WGA board.
02/15/2012 at 10:05 pm #1956615I happened to look at the maps this morning and was wondering how long it would take before the complaints started flying.
Can’t say I’m fond of the change yet. Speed seems slow, tiles don’t all load in some and the visual detail seems awful light on others.
I’m sure it will be tweaked more.
02/15/2012 at 10:20 pm #1956616I haven’t looked at it yet, but if the old maps are gone, I know I won’t like it. I can’t figure out how to get the new maps to pan over. These forums were helpful to me when using the old maps because of problems loading; maybe if I can put into words exactly what my issues are, someone here will know how to fix it so I can adapt to new maps. Otherwise I will have to cache even less efficiently than I already do. 🙁
02/15/2012 at 10:28 pm #1956617Is there a place to find out what they all changed in this release? Thanks!
02/15/2012 at 11:02 pm #1956618Hmmm, I kind of like the new changes. The maps load so fast!

02/16/2012 at 12:19 am #1956619I plead the 5th on the new maps. WGA would just delete my comments anyway. 😯
02/16/2012 at 12:58 am #1956620here is a link to a GSAK macro that uses google maps and can easily switch it to Satelite view.http://gsak.net/board/index.php?s=fb217bc4e0599a6c5581466bc7731fb3&showtopic=17505&st=0&#entry155762
I never did like the maps on GC, so been using this for a while.
02/16/2012 at 1:17 am #1956621Thanks Barry…something good came out of this changeover, at least for us. Those maps are nice! Though I still preferred scrolling around for fun on the website with the old maps. Oh well. Less time wasted doing that sort of thing, another good thing to come of this!

02/16/2012 at 3:14 am #1956623I would agree that the new maps are pretty much awful in “Mapquest Satellite” mode, but there is an upgrade. If you map a pocket query, it now shows JUST the pocket query caches. Additionally, the OpenStreetMap Cycle map seems to have some trails on it (at least in a few places). I have always used GSAK for “real” mapping, so for scrolling around, I always used the non-satellite maps. Still seems ok for that purpose.
