As 2009 draws to a close, what caching memories stand out from the last year? What Events, Milestones, Mugglings, and Adventures occurred?
We enjoyed the LCG Event in January, with a huge turnout, as well as the West Bend Cache Bash in August.
Hitting milestone 2K on Rock Island, with perfect weather, was one of the best memories we had.
Having a muggle catch me standing on the roof of the geomobile was CERTAINLY a different confrontation. But meeting some new cachers, and staying in touch with the veterans, is always the best part of the game.
Here’s to a fantastic 2010! 😀
12/31/2009 at 9:55 pm #1919085In no particular order because each one holds memories for different reasons, but were loved none-the-less.
1. Hitting find number 1000 at High Cliff during the WGA camp out in May.
2. Attending my first mega event in August at the West Bend Ca$h Bash.
3. Being a part of Team Honeybunnies’ and Zuma’s special day for they’re
10,000 find.
4. My latest adventure to Eagle Source with a wonderful group of people.
5. The three big events (camp out, Ca$h Bash, and WGA picnic) I attended
and met so many people at. Some of which have become good friends
and others good acquaintances.I’m looking forward to having just as much fun in the coming year, and meeting more wonderful people. Thank you to all who have made this last year such an enjoyable one and for all who have become a part of my life in way or another. God bless all of you.
12/31/2009 at 11:03 pm #1919086I reflected on 2009 a few days ago on my blog.
01/01/2010 at 12:28 am #1919087I would say the caching memories of 2009 I wont forget would have to be meeting alot of new geo-friends & co-hosting an event (GC20Z79) which also turned out to be my 1st event ever.
01/01/2010 at 12:56 am #1919088I only have one fond memory of caching in 09. It was our anniversary weekend in Door county. We headed to the Door Bluff Headland and visited the caves. GCGE2Z
It was quite a nice hike and time well spent together. Just wish I would have brought fresh water along.
01/01/2010 at 1:07 am #1919089The people. Definitely the people. And some good hikes.
Second nice Memorial Day in a row to spend on some quality caches.01/01/2010 at 2:58 am #1919090I’ll remember the 4th of July, climbing in the cave and up the bluffs by New Lisbon with Jerry and Northern Lightz. Also getting Northern Lightz involved in my addiction.
I’ll also remember my first mega event in the Cache Bash and being able to do PU What a Stinker! at the Bash!01/01/2010 at 3:32 am #1919091Starting this great activity, topping the 1000 mark at the B-17 Navigator cache in Winneconne, and meeting many incredibly nice people! I can’t wait for 2010 to see what more is in store.
01/01/2010 at 3:55 am #1919092Oh gosh where to begin!
-and so ends my first full year of being in the caching world. What a blast it has been discovering this little hobby! It has taken me to nooks and cranies that I would have never explored before. It puts a smile on my face to know that many people enjoyed finding my own caches, as I had loads of fun making and hiding them. I have met many cachers, all of which are a great bunch. Thanks to Jim and Josh for letting me, the total cacher stranger, cache with you at the Cache Bash, I really did have a blast!
In the short time I have out grown 1 gps, and have now owned three different ones.To next year, a whole new set of caching adventures awaits!
01/01/2010 at 5:27 am #1919093I would say the most memorable caching related event for us in 2009 was reaching our 1000th find at the campout this year. Oh and the pajama contest during the pancake breakfast in West Bend for the Cache Bash.
01/01/2010 at 5:31 am #1919094*starting this addiction
*placing my first cache
*having to archive my first cache due to dangerous muggles (sorry again Jim)
*my first encounter with a rattlesnake in the wild not even 20 caches in to this game
*Tuesday night caching with my kids for their first finds
*meeting legends and newbees alike
*losing my 1st GPS in South Park on a DNF
*my first experience with winter caching and sinking into a drift up to my waist – not all dead ends are created the same
*introducing my sister to this game and her turning my name into an adjective to describe camo style
*discovering more pill bottles than a Walgreens puts out in a month
*…and so many more memories to mentionThank you to everyone who has made my first 6 months of caching so memorable and exciting to continue into 2K10!

Oh, and enjoying the lonely cache game. 8)
On the Left Side of the Road...01/01/2010 at 2:40 pm #1919097Highlights of 2009
– Starting out the year with a group snowshoe to Marsh to the Philippines.
– A FTF on a great kayak cache with my wife- The Beast of Big Island. The cache was fantastic but so was the long paddle back to the boat landing in the rain. All the motor boats had run for cover and we had the whole lake to ourselves with the rain and the sound of the paddles.
– Various outings with the Mathman, including a crazy FTF run that included a 3/4 mile hike in actual -10 with serious wind- Gilligan’s Island.
– A couple of camping trips in the U.P. with my daughter and seeking out waterfalls. Including Agate Falls,Bond Falls, and BLACKJACK.
– Another great camping trip with both my wife and daughter in the U.P. More waterfalls- Scott Falls, Wagner Falls and others. Also on that trip would be my favorite cache of the year- Norwich View.
– Then in September one final waterfall trip- this time with the whole family (my son back from working at scout camp) we hike back to discover my favorite waterfall of the year (and this in a year where we hunted waterfalls) Lost Falls.
– Finally the snowshoe hike with a great group to Eagle Source. This was special because: my whole family came along, my wife and I had failed to make it to the cache last January, the group of folks that showed up were a joy to spend the day with, and it seemed like winter decided to paint the woods for us. The whole trip, hiking in, hiking out, sipping cider on the almost abandoned road in Northern Wisconsin…I just kept thinking that nothing could have made this more enjoyable. A day to remember.Very few numbers for us. No number runs. But, for us, a good year of caching.
01/01/2010 at 2:47 pm #1919098The best memory, a five day trip to Geowoodstock in Tennessee with the Bald 2.5 team, finding caches in 9 states during the trip, including a FTF in Indiana. Also, any of the many caching adventures with my caching buddy ks9wi, and others who joined us occasionaly.
One of the best memories was the impromptu non-event at Berlin last month to do a wherigo. What a joy to see so many show up.
Happy new year everyone!
