I noticed that registration for the picnic is now closed. Has this always been the norm? Just wondering why? Suppose someone has a last minute change in their scheduling, work schedule, or vacation plans? Can they not still show up even if they haven’t registered? The way it looks now, they may feel it’s not open to them because registration has been closed. Maybe a note should be posted that they can still attend, although name tags or packets won’t be available. I can’t think of any other reason why we couldn’t accept non registered guests, as there will certainly be enough room to accommodate everyone. I just hate thinking that someone may be turned away because of that.

Registration for this event has been closed. Please contact the WGA secretary via email (secretary
wi geocaching com) with any last minute changes. I don’t think there’s a problem with people coming without registering. They just might not get the nifty booklet or a name tag.

08/14/2006 at 8:41 pm #1764573Yes, it has been normal to close the registration a few days before the picnic. We have many people crunching data, producing handouts, etc. We need to know how many to make.
We do allow walkups (unregistered people), but we cannot guarantee that we will have handouts available for them.
We definately don’t want to exclude anyone, but at some point we need to “go to press”. Since the board members have to print and assemble hundreds of handouts, we need time to do so.
08/14/2006 at 11:01 pm #1764574OK, understandable, but maybe just a note somewhere saying they can still attend. I guess seeing people that had to be turned away from attending the Camp Jeep Geo Tent has made me a bit oversensitive. Within the first hour of the on line registration for Camp Jeep ’06 some months back, the 200 openings for the Geo sessions were filled. There were probably twice that many people that came by to see if they could still register. The popularity of Geocaching is growing. I hope the social aspects of our WGA events and Team Badger outings continue to grow as well.

I have added such a note to the event page on the WGA site Bob.
If you are going to attend or are thinking of attending and didn’t register, please consider sending a note to the WGA secretary so we at least have a rough idea of how many extra people we can expect. If we know 50 more people are coming, we can try to have stuff (booklets, sheets, water, etc.) on hand to cover this, but if 50 people show up out of the blue we’re probably going to run short of something.
08/15/2006 at 2:14 am #1764576Looks like we were both on top of it… I modified the gc.com page to make it plain and clear that anyone is still welcome, but…
Thanks for pointing out our “closed door”. It was “unlocked” the whole time but certainly wasn’t very inviting to guests.
🙂
08/15/2006 at 5:16 am #1764577Thanks everyone! Just trying to make sure no one feels left out. Anyone know if any out of state folks are planning on coming? Not counting Illinois of course, they’re always represented well.
