Dawn and I will be giving a geocaching clinic at REI on November 18th (tenatively). We have put together an introduction booklet that contains a lot of FAQ info. We are looking for input on what else everyone feels is important to include in this booklet. Should we have info on what typical caches look like? etc.

You can download at the booklet at: http://www.enerlinx.com/geocaching/Introduction%20to%20Geocaching%20Clinic.zip

Please email any comments to: [email protected]

I will be posting this clinic as an event cache as soon as I hear back from the event coordinator at REI.

    Thanks!
    Chad

Wow, it’s another awesome place I would have never learned about if it wasn’t for geocaching.

The handbook looks great. I don’t think there’s really any need to add more. When giving a class, as long as you have a guide to keep you on track and allow for questions and answers, your experience will fill in the blanks. After the first couple, it becomes more enjoyable each time. After I got comfortable teaching, my problem was giving too much information; A 1 hour class suddenly turned into 2.
    Most importantly, have fun!

That’s a great document! It wouldn’t be a bad idea to print a couple off and carry them with when we go geocaching. If someone showed some serious interest that would answer just about any question they had and point them in the right direction.

One thing I did notice is that under the section “Things to not put in caches” you forgot to explicitly mention that food is (for the most part) a no-no. Great effort! Have fun teaching!

We were at REI this weekend getting some accessories for my dad as he starts caching, and an REI worker and clinic guy, Max, hadn’t heard of the geocaching clinic. He has classes on Tuesday nights and hasn’t been able to do the gps clinics lately. He’s happy to hear of the upcoming clinic. Good luck! Wish we could be there!

The only thing we would add is the ever-so important Team Name. Coming up with one in the spur of the moment can cause such mishaps as Geoffnsara. Lack of creativity on our part .

I’ve always wondered… Have you found all your caches together? If just one of you finds a cache, how do you log it in? Geoffn? Nsara?

Thanks Geoffnsara for bringing this up. We’ll add a section in the booklet on it.

We log all of ours under our team name. I think I may have found about 10-15 by myself. Other than that, we have found all of ours together. We started doing this to get some ”quality” family time. It was also supposed to be on Sundays only. We now cache 3-4 times a week.
