With the nominations I have received, I put a great deal of consideration before accepting and pursing running as a WGA board member:
First post, a bit about myself:
I am a Recreation Supervisor with the City of Greenfield Dept of Parks & Recreation. I manage programs in the Aquatics, Playgrounds, Fitness, Enrichment, Arts, Dance and Safety areas. I have a Bachelor’s degree from UW-Milwaukee in Community Recreation and am completing a Master’s degree from UW-LaCrosse in Park & Recreation Management via Distance Education.
I am an American Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor plus an Instructor Trainer in CPR/AED and First Aid. Our Greater Milwaukee Chapter recently merged and became the American Red Cross in South Eastern Wisconsin. I currently serve on the Health & Safety Instructor Support Committee which oversees the Instructor Trainers and Instructors. I am entering my third year of a five year term for this position.
Besides Geocaching, I also enjoy scrapbooking, quilling, camping, canoeing and sailboating.
I began Geocaching in February 2004. I spent several hours in parks I knew finding my first caches before TamCo & I headed to Charleston South Carolina for a conference. We had a great time discovering Charleston while learning how my GPS worked and what the different cache types were.

Renee A. Vanselow01/26/2007 at 8:31 pm #1769290Contributions to Geocaching:
With my involvement in Parks & Recreation and training background, it became a good fit to offer Geocaching Basics workshops. My purpose has always been to get new Geocachers off to a good start with the background information that I wished I had learned when I started. I researched and created a PowerPoint presentation that is continually evolving. In the workshops, I try to present different cache containers and hides with hands on experience. The assistance of other local geocachers has been invaluable.
With my involvement in Parks & Recreation, I have planned and conducted several geocaching events. Of course, I am the person that experiences 18 inches of snow and even a deluge of rain during their event BUT MUCH to the amazement of the Park & Recreation staff Geocachers still come!! With the Tapps, we just held the 3rd Annual Waukesha JanBoree Geocaching event and Greenfield All A Glow event. The number of participants at events is definitely growing.
With my involvement in Parks & Recreation, I have also been in a role of explaining and promoting Geocaching to the other local Parks & Recreation Departments. It definitely is no secret that I am a geocacher so when they are contacted by a geocacher, the Park & Recreation staff call me to get more information before returning the call. Most recently these have been, Waukesha County Parks, Whitewater Recreation and Brown Deer Park & Recreation.
01/27/2007 at 6:29 pm #1769291I just wanted to post a note,
I am attempting to reply to the various threads posted. We had a death in the family this week and we have family members staying at our house for the weekend. I am jumping online between things.
