I have mentioned my top priority of revitilizing committees a number of times. Do the other candidates believe that we should revitilize our committees? Why or why not?

Ralph, if revitalizing the committees has the potential to allow more Wisconsin folks to become involved and feel a part of the organization, it should be a high priority. In the other organization I serve, when we took steps to encourage more membership involvement, it served to strengthen the organization as a whole. It certainly gave the members greater insight into the issues and problems we faced.

Member involvement provides fresh viewpoints, a feeling of ownership and perhaps allows the board to let go of some of the burden, too.

I’m interested and I’m sure others are too. Where can we find out about what’s involved and planned for the various committees?

I am very much in favor of expanding the roles of the committees. I think where we have failed in the past is that the committees themselves have never physically met or even participated in a teleconference or online chat. Message boards are ok for a group once they have a charge and everyone has a job to do, but regular meetings to allow for real time interchange of ideas is required to have a truly effective team. Additionally, the committees need to establish some tasks to accomplish over the year, and then assign the responsibility for those tasks to the team members. Once this is established, the message boards can be an effective tool for reporting progress, asking for help, suggesting additional projects, etc.

Editing to add that making the 5 non-officer board members part of ALL of the committees is probably overkill. I would suggest that each of these board members should be the leader of one of the committees and responsible for communicating with the rest of the board as to the committee’s progress. Of course, the board members could join as many committees as they like, but I think it would be good to give each a primary focus.

I definitely see the various committee’s as a great way to have more members involved! I know there are more geocachers who have expertise to share and this would be a great way to do so.

I also think we should definitely schedule a face to face meeting to establish goals and determine direction within each committee.

Committees are a GR8 way to get things done! Do we have the right committees to revitalize, or do we need a set of new ones? Before we can answer that question I think we need to get input from the majority of the members of WGA, and encourage others to join.
