Hello as many of you know I am Rhonda Veroeven, AKA: Ms. WISearcher of the team WISearchers. I was surprised, shocked, honored, etc. to be nominated for a board position and happily accepted.

    A bit about me:
Born in Northern WI then got “the itch” and moved to MN to get my undergraduate degree (Elementary Education and Special Education)which proved the whole “grass is greener” theory and promptly moved back to WI. Was a teacher in St.Croix, WI for 4 years and completed my Masters in Educational Leadership. Then I began my tenure as an associate professor (adjunct) to Saint Mary’s University of MN. Moved to the Madison area and began to work for the University of WI system as well as a high school teacher. My training as a special education teacher landed me a job teaching a very difficult population of students which I grow from daily. I now teach general biology and environmental biology to those students that are most challenging…I say bring it on!

As I am sure most of you have read I am engaged to Mr. WISearcher as last June we posted about getting engaged http://wi-geocaching.com/forums/Forum1/HTML/000195.html through a geocaching theme…isn’t he the greatest! I am also fortunate to have his son, Brendan to enrich my life…maybe the future will hold baby WISearchers…did I really just type that?

I became involved in geocaching reluctantly, as quite honestly when Mr. WISearcher introduced the concept I wasn’t at all excited about it. We completed three geocaches that first day, and I was instantly hooked!!! There was no looking back. We are now at over 350 finds and look forward to more…

I have learned so much from being a part of this organization…most importantly, that geocachers are great people! I have given much less than I have received in this activity; however, I have assisted in placing caches at the most recent campout at Devil’s Lake, together with Mr. WISearcher we have placed several caches and have quite the series underway (release date hopefully early February), and most recently have been successful in creating a very collaborative relationship with the local State Park System.

Major ongoing projects include my upcoming meeting with the city of Madison Parks Department…with hopes of lifting a ban in the area, and have continued to work with the Dane County Parks system.

My goal for becoming a member of the board would be to hopefully continue in the tracks of those that preceeded me and learn from them, as well as continuing to become very active in educating others about our activity to lay the foundation of the future of our activity. I understand that this is a great responsibility, but it is also an incredible opportunity to be a part of something so great.

Regardless of a winning vote or not, I will continue to be an advocate for geocaching…as you can tell, once I get started with something, it is hard to stop me! A huge thanks to those that nominated me!

    Sincerely,
    Ms. WISearcher-
    Rhonda Veroeven
