Had a lot of fun at the campout. One thing I especially enjoyed was seeing some other Rino owners show up on my screen! This was the first time I had that happen.
So I’m curious — did any of you Rino owners see ME show up on YOURS? If you did, you would have seen me show up with my real name of “Kevon”. Just wondering if my Rino is working as yours are.So did I “appear” on your Rino screen?
05/21/2004 at 3:14 pm #1754713Unfortunately, we didn’t have our Rino with us. But I know there is an option of whether you do transmit your location or not. As long as you had it on and were on the same channel (it only works on FRS channels) it should work.
One thing I haven’t figured out is to semi permanently save “contacts”. So If I run in you you at an event or on the trails, and I set a proximity alert, delete all waypoints and reload new (as I often do), that the contacts stay. It would be nice to know if you are within a mile’s radius of Socko, Brew, Outtahand, etc. while on the trails in the future. Then I can avoid all of you.. LOL J/K!!! :
Do you know if one can easily delete all waypoints, and leave the contacts alone?

05/21/2004 at 3:36 pm #1754714This is the first time I’ve had a contact on the Rino. So no — I don’t know if it’s possible to delete the waypoints without deleting the contact.
It’s definitely something to look into, though!

05/21/2004 at 7:49 pm #1754716That is so cool! I don’t have a Rino, but I just had to post how cool I thought this was!
I was really entertained at the campout when the announcement was made over the FRS radios that someone had lost a Rino. To those not in the know, that sounded pretty funny…

05/22/2004 at 1:21 pm #17547171) Glad to hear I showed up on your other Rinos. I guess I must have mine configured correctly, then.
2) I thought the same thing when I heard the announcement about the lost Rino. I thought that of all types of GPSR’s to lose, this would surely be the easiest to find!
I never did hear the resolution, though. Do we know if it was found? The one big “fly in the ointment” of it being a Rino would be the loose battery problem. If it fell out of a pocket or off of it’s clip and hit the ground, the “loose battery” problem may rear its ugly head and shut the unit down! Then the search would be just the same as any other GPSr.06/17/2004 at 6:48 pm #1754718quote:

Outtahand:
I just got back to this thread. I just got my rino back from Garmin after sending it in under warranty. I had the same problem with it shutting down. After it got jostled on my belt clip, giving it a bump like the guy talking to Ziggy on the show Quantum Leap (LOL) or any slight bump would shut it down. Turned out there was a loose solder point in the unit, not the batteries’ springs being loose. It is good as new now! If yours is getting bad, you might want to send it in.
