We may be making a road trip to Arkansas in April. We are thinking about driving some of the slow scenic roads along the Mississippi River.

Many of the 2008 contest caches along there are archived, and all the states tourism departments say the state geocaching organizations are in charge. Anybody here have any new info for 2009?

    Thanks, Chris & Jim

No “real” information here…just a guess, but could those caches be archived due to flooding last summer? That would be my guess. Sounds like an enjoyable ride, though. Drive safe, and happy caching!!

No caches for 2009 have been posted yet. They are really slow at getting around to things. My father won one of the grand prizes and received part of it last Saturday. They said that LA is still deciding on the overnight stay and TN would mail it directly. One of the gift certificates didn’t have a signature or expiration date either, so we are still trying to get that one straighted out.

All in all, the contest was fun, but totally disorganized. I hope its a little better this year.

Aside from that, I am totally up to doing a 2202.3 mile 4 day weekend again! Hopefully we won’t have to outrun another Ike. 😀

Just outside of St Louis, (Edwardsville,IL) you can find Bully’s Smokehouse. They serve the 😀 BEST 😀 ribs I’ve had outside of the State of Texas.

Good to know. I will have to check it out on our way home from Mississippi this April.

Also making our spring trip to the Arkansas Ozarks, but we will be going down in late March. What is your destination, Gram and Gramps?

Different topic, same state: I would like to go to Arkansas this Spring to go to the Diamond Mine Park. I figure if I can find a film canister (or bison tube) in the woods, I should be able to find a diamond in a diamond park!

Crator of the Diamonds State Park, Murfreesburo, Ar. http://www.crateofdiamondsstatepark.com I have that as a destination for the future also. I’ve heard one of the best times to search is right after a rain has washed the ground a bit. Good luck!

    We’re going there too!

When we were at Crater of Diamonds State Park they told us the best tinme to visit is right after the field is plowed or right after a rain. You should be able to get their plowing/tilling schedule to help determine when to go. If I remember correctly they plowed it weekly, but can’t remember which day.

River Road caches in Minnesota archived because they were part of the now complete 2008 MN State Park Geocaching Challenge. New challenge coming in May but don’t know if they’ll affiliate with the River Road Association.

Doing the Great River Road Challenge(s) in September if all goes well.
