Robert (Bob) Hamblin – Ham Fam

Hi, my name is Robert Hamblin, my friends call me Bob.  My cachin name is Ham Fam.  Coming up with a cachin’ name was simply copying another cacher’s example, Hardinfam.  I enjoy geocaching, camping, spending time outdoors, and bicycling.

Concerning what I would do or change if I am voted onto the board, I am not aware of any major issues that need addressing as far as the WGA is concerned.  As far as what I would do if nominated, I was taught at a young age the importance of working hard.  And the satisfaction that goes with that.  If I am voted onto the board, I will work hard in any way that I can.  From cleaning up after a social event, to helping plan the event, helping man tables (thinking cache ba$h), or serving chilli, to the less frequent issues that the board handles.

I think that people that know me well would say, that I don’t do things half…way (gotta keep it family friendly here).  If I’m going to do something, then I’m going to put my all in it.

I will do my best to carry on the strong tradition of the WGA, by (and I’m quoting the About us page of WGA.com).  “Our purpose is to plan geocaching events in Wisconsin that are open to everyone who wishes to sign up and participate. In turn, the events we plan are designed for:

• Meeting people
• Communication
• Education
• Having fun!”

I look forward to representing all the members of the Wisconsin Geocaching Association.

Why should you vote for me?

 

Well, I was recently asked this question, and to be honest I don’t have a good answer.  Seems like a short statement maybe something that rhymes or rolls off the tongue would be perfect.  I don’t have that though.  Doesn’t sound promising does it.  I’ll be honest, I’m not sure that I’m even a better nominee than anyone else running.  I’ve been reading what some of them posted on the forums and thought, “Why didn’t I think of that”.  I was nominated and that’s cool, thank you to all that nominated me.  I’m not a politician and wouldn’t want to be, with that said I don’t have to throw out a bunch of empty promises that may never come true. 

 

So what promises can I make?  Well I don’t rush into anything half (you know what).  If somethings worth doing, it’s worth doing well.  I think that is apparent in any of my caches that I have placed and maintained.  Some of you may know me, I’m kind of quiet until you get to know me.  I’m honest, professional, kind, smart, a good team member, that can listen as well as contribute.  I work hard to maintain my commitments.  I try to think before I speak.  And I believe in the importance of good representatives making the Wisconsin Geocaching Association great.  As a BOD member I would take concerns from the WGA members and pass them onto the board, and hopefully improve on the issue.  If we can’t I’ll let you know.  Obviously not everyone can have everything they want all the time.  There are certain functions that the board takes care of such as merchandising, setting up events, and sponsoring other events.  Again, I don’t take my commitments lightly.  I don’t think anyone runs for notoriety or public acknowledgement, I think it’s a thankless job that’s got to get done.  And I am willing to do what needs to get done.  Now I am starting to sound like a politician.  What I’m trying to say, is that when someone needs to sit down and figure out how many t-shirts we should order, or we need someone to show up early and set up for an event, or pick up garbage afterwards, or make phone calls to line up events, or throw out ideas for or against something, I’ll do it.

 

I don’t have any complaints about the way things are run now, yeah there’s some things that would be great IF we could improve on them.  But I don’t think anyone on the board has done a terrible job and needs to be replaced.

 

So why should you vote for me?  I guess because I’m a decent guy that will do his best as a board member representing the members of the WGA.
