02/04/2006 at 5:42 pm #1739139Seeing that the thread is getting a little long, I thought I would recap the details of the event as they are planned thus far.
- The event will be held on Jun 23-25.
- A group campsite has been reserved. (Usage fee TBA) (You have the option to reserve your own “private” site if desired.)
- There will be a few temp caches placed for the event and there are a few regular caches to seek on both islands. The event will revolve more around hiking, camaraderie, and the joys of island living. (The island is heavily wooded and has a wonderful trail system).
- Attendees will need to plan their schedules to ensure they don’t miss the boats. (Car Ferry to Washington Island and Karfi to Rock Island.
- At least one of us (me) will be sea kayaking at Rock Island. Wish me luck as I pursue the Isle of Poverty and Treasure cache (weather permitting).
Rock Island is a truly amazing place that anyone with an interest in history and adventure would truly enjoy. If you are thinking about it, plan on it! You will not regret it.
02/17/2006 at 3:02 am #1739140just sitting on the couch eating laack’s horseradish cold pack cheese on crackers and drinking Lienenkugels apple spice beer and checking the boards when i thought of this board. looking forward to camping and having a reasonable sized campfire (6ft or more). at this time one child wants to go again and the other isn’t sure if he wants to because of “stinky” toilets.

03/24/2006 at 2:17 pm #1739142What is the attendance count at now?
03/24/2006 at 2:29 pm #1739143According to the cache page — looks like about 28 attendees.

03/31/2006 at 2:05 pm #1739144Bec is correct. 28 people are mentioned in the “will attend” logs, with 22 staying at the group site. If you can open a excel spreadsheet file, here is the current attendance list.

05/07/2006 at 4:17 pm #1739145How many people are brining kids around the age of 5-8?
I will have my 2 kids 6 & 7 just want to check if there will be other kids there that they can play with.
PCFROG05/07/2006 at 4:56 pm #1739146Geo-Raider, Packerfans, and really I’m not lost are attending with children. Not sure of the ages though. I think Packerfans’ child is 4, and really I’m not lost’s child is most likely older than 7 (and very mature as well!)
Wanted to add: I don’t believe there is any actual play area for kids (but there could be) so you might want to bring along some “stuff” for them unless you don’t mind them playing with rocks. Although they were quite fun last year!!

thank you, as parents my wife and i try. my children are 11 and 12 but will play with other ages. as for something to play with, a frisby, football, kickball, mit and baseball would all be great. my wife says a kite might work. although most boys will find sticks, rocks, and dirt are all great toys .

One of these year I will do this. However right now I would have a difficult time minimizing my camping gear to keep me and the family happy and still have room for beer. I think once John can walk well enough to carry a twelve-pack we’ll make a go of it!

05/08/2006 at 2:16 am #1739151I’ve enjoyed many a Wiffle Ball game in my youth on the island, for those of ball-playing age. Not sure if offspring Emily will accompany me, (depends on behavior) but she is 6.
