With a little over a month to go, let’s move the discussion to a new folder, so those of us stuck with dial-up connections don’t have to wait for 100-plus messages (with photos) to load.

Don’t forget to bookmark this page and check back often, especially those looking for ride shares. I also suggest sharing rides across on the ferry, as you pay $$$ for your vehicle. But also have plan “B” if your expected boat ride partner doesn’t show at the expected time. Cell coverage is spotty at best at the Northport Pier, so we may not be able to call each other from the dock.

Questioning the Rock Island Karfi Schedule-

      quote:

      May 27 -June 30

      10 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. daily,
      plus 11 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. weekends

Should I assume that Friday is included as part of the “weekend” schedule?

Good Question! I will call them and get the ferry schedule directly from them for the entire weekend.

I talked to the Karfi operator a few weeks ago. Friday is not considered a part of the weekend. The full weekend schedule may not be run if there isn’t enough demand. Rates have gone up for 2006 by $1.00 per person.

You mean you’re not paddling to the island this time?

Of course I will be paddling to the island.

It’s always good to have a back-up plan.

Cacher_Chick is planning to ride up with me and she didn’t like my idea of “wading” to Rock Island if we missed the last karfi.

I’ll only wade over if the lake mysteriously warms up to about 75 degrees

Our cub scout weekend start time has been pushed back by two days so the entire AstroD clan will be able to attend! Change our head count from 1 to 3.

As far as a schedule of events, I will try to keep everybody updated here, but don’t let yourselves think this is going to be an overscheduled event. Most folks are interested in relaxing, visiting the island’s sites, and partaking of the park’s programs, hikes and tours. I am not going to schedule conflicting Geocaching events when the park staff is offering something.

I have been in contact with the park staff, and the schedule for our weekend’s events isn’t in place yet. So far, I have the following events planned:

        1. some type of timed cache race Saturday early evening, with refinements over last year’s race. This will involve 5-6 finds and you will get all coordinates up front, so if you can’t find one, you can move onto the next one. Points will be awarded based on ability to find caches, as well as time, so you don’t need to be a marathon runner to win. Caches will be somewhat spaced together to avoid excessive walking.

        2. Friday or Saturday night, I will take those interested to the haunted graveyard, where we will hunt ghosts. Those with infrared cameras, bring ’em!

        3. Sunday morning, those interested can gather ’round the last cookfire, where we will listen to “Hymns by Johnny Cash” and have a roundtable discusson. Topics will be a.) “Judas Iscariot: Despised Betrayer or Misguided Idiot?” and/or b.) “When did Jesus become a Republican?”

I thought I’d start Sunday morning with “It was Jesus” and “I saw a man”, but I’ll certainly take some requests as long as it ain’t a “Sunday Morning Coming Down”. http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/cash-johnny/sunday-morning-coming-down-2217.html

Does anyone want to make a list of food to bring and share with the group camp sites?

I went on a camping trip in April with 15 people and each person brought something different (see draft list below).

I will volunteer to cook at least 1-2 meals for the group and clean-up after.

          Supply List
          eggs
          bacon
          brats
          hamburgers
          hamburger buns
          brat buns
          chips
          water for dishes and drink
          extra ice
          paper plates
          napkins
          Coleman gas for stove

Please respond if you are interested.

        Thank you,

        bacon – 2 pounds

        Is that enough?
