I thought I’d start Sunday morning with “It was Jesus” and “I saw a man”, but I’ll certainly take some requests as long as it ain’t a “Sunday Morning Coming Down”.

Naturally, you will have to play “Rock Island Line”

Does anyone want to make a list of food to bring and share with the group camp sites?

I went on a camping trip in April with 15 people and each person brought something different (see draft list below).

I will volunteer to cook at least 1-2 meals for the group and clean-up after.

      Supply List
      eggs
      bacon
      brats
      hamburgers
      hamburger buns
      brat buns
      chips
      water for dishes and drink
      extra ice
      paper plates
      napkins
      Coleman gas for stove

Please respond if you are interested.

    Thank you,

I can get lots of napkins — I can bring them along.

As we have reserved an individual site (TS, Lorie and Patriot1), we’ve also already planned our menus based on things that we know work out well on Rock Island, so we probably won’t be participating in a group meal arrangement. We are, however, planning to attend the group cookout/supper on Saturday evening followed by some beer and cheese tasting; we’ll just bring our own stuff, probably hot dogs or such. We will, of course, be bringing some beers and cheese to share with the group. Thanks to the Marvels though, for their generous offer to prepare the meals.

For those putting together a group meal, I offer a caveat; have a backup plan. For example, if the menu calls for burgers and the person bringing the meat has their transmission fail in Valmy, there won’t be any burgers. The last ferry on Friday comes in at 4:00 PM. Anyone missing it won’t arrive until 10:00 AM Saturday at the earliest. In general, I recommend that anyone camping on the island bring an extra day’s food supply just in case. You never know when an animal will get into your food supply or a container bursts spilling it’s contents into the cooler juice. When camping on the island, going to a restaurant instead is not an option.

That said, I plan to have a big pot of coffee going at our site both Saturday and Sunday mornings. The site, number 32, is just a couple minute’s walk from the group site. Anyone wanting a quick cup of coffee is welcome to stop by with their mug and we’ll fill it up.

I’ve been to the island more times than I can count, there’s not much left for me to see. So if provisions appear low on Saturday, I’ll volunteer to make a ferry run back to Washington Island to get more ice or forgotten items.

Its always good to know there will be a fellow coffee drinker on the island. I too will have my pot o perking for a good cup or java.

2 people making coffee… Sounds like I can leave that at home. Now that shaves off .25 pounds from my load. 🙂

Most likely me and little man will be stopping at Bay shore park Thursday eve.

I stayed there last year and it is a nice area with showers and play area for little ones. If anyone is in the area Thursday and wishes to stop by for a hot cup of coffee that would be great.

Let me know if you will be in the area and we can touch base.

Though rain seems to be an ongoing theme for event caches this year, it was yet another amazing event cache at Rock Island.

There were more smiles and laughs this weekend than perhaps at any past WI geocaching event. If you didn’t go, you should be sorry. If you did, you are still smiling. 😀 Words cannot do it justice.

Thanks to all who played a part in making this event all that it was!

      😀 😀

      Thanks for the event!

so who all has pictures from the event and where are they posting? (there was mention of a picture of a canoe on the back of another boat)

      I’m slowly uploading photos here:

      Rock Island II

Probably should just go ahead and pay for the service to get all photos uploaded, but as it is now, I can add about 18 a month….

I created a sub-album for the Rock Island event in the WGA photo album.

      Rock Island Getaway II Album

Currently everyone has permission to upload/add photos to this album.

General note on the WGA photo album: In the future I plan to add a feature where members can create their own sub-albums in the WGA photo album and manage album permissions (to give others the ability to add photos to albums they own, etc.). But for now, if you want a personal photo album or one for an event, contact me or a Board member (hopefully one that is tech savvy ;)) and we’ll get one created for you.
