Rock Island Getaway III (already?!?)

It seems that people are already starting to talk about their own plans for next summer, so let’s get a discussion underway:

Are people interested in a third Rock Island Getaway?

And when? Father’s Day is June 17, and the Fourth of July is on a Wednesday next year, which will surely confuse a lot of people who wish to celebrate the fourth over a long weekend.

A group site again, or individual sites?

We vote for Fathers Day weekend but the following would work for us also. We can’t wait for winter to be done so we can head back up!

My wife’s family is planning a reunion down near St. Louis June 22-25, so Father’s Day weekend would be better for me, as well.

However, when the first R.I.G. was on Father’s Day weekend, it seemed to cause some conflicted feelings with some attenders who wished to visit their fathers on that day but were instead busy island-hopping.

For me, anyways, Father’s Day is a minor holiday not requiring the elaborate tributes and time-consuming activities of, say, Mother’s Day. As a father myself, I personally would rather be camping than not.

Any other people AGAINST the June 15-16-17 date, simply BECAUSE it is Father’s Day weekend, and not because of some other scheduling conflict?

OK, I declare that Father’s Day weekend shall be the date. Mark your calendars! I am going to try to have some early-bird specials for those that come up on Thursday instead of Friday, and I will probably reserve group site #1 (the larger one closer to the boathouse) sometime this winter.

Hey all, I got a note today about the new thread, I put my vote in for the weekend of June 23th, I could come that Thursday the 22nd, as I could make it a week long stay on that coast of WI. I have made a commitment to the Energy Fair in Custer which is the weekend of June 16th. Let me know if you need any slush funds to get the site reserved.

Astronomer’s Lighthouse Hunters votes for the weekend of June 22-24, 2007. Father’s day weekend conflicts with another 4 day camping weekend for me. If Father’s day weekend is the final answer, then I will make a choice. Looking forward to a third trip to Rock Island!
